Mayyyybe it makes sense that a single 550-600cc cylinder emitting force in a BANG will need the same clutch spring as four 250cc cylinders delivering more power but more smoothly?
 
Hmm you got a point.. 70hp in a single bang is probable worse than 4 x 50hp. Anyways, the clutch is put away for an unknown time. Then I will find out and share my findings.
 
Not sure what youre saying there my friend, but any pulse going through the system is reliant on the mass of it all. (flywheel crank and all)
Spec is for ex from 3000 rpm, which is just set from the specs of the build, make it a smooth ride. The amount of inertia would relay on that no?
This done right its just about mean torque to make the clutch bite, as the clutch now manages a steady force, not pulses.

Now the range wont cover the most lowest rpm, but theres no chance you can achieve max cylinder filling at that point either.
Any max tq and match springs, super simple

Were looking at 17% more here than a souped up 565, should do for an easy calc.
Id imagine the stock springs shimmed 1.4 mills will take it, just guessing ;)

You are probably right. The suter clutch use a different spring system than stock so it is just a matter of testing the different springs until it works as intended.
 
Having a closer look at the head and found a problem on the left side intake rocker. The rod can be carefully polished up and turned 180 deg, but I'm afraid the rockerarm must be changed out don't you think? The damaged area is quite rough so if I polish it up the result will be out of spec..

I was told the head came from a CZ team and they had done the job on the ports.

I'd change the rocker. They aren't cheap but they are as insurance.

Interesting the different opinions on knife edging.
 
After a few emails back and forth with thumperracing it is time to pack everything up to be shipped across the pond. In lack of any interesting mechanical pictures I will spam with some exhilarating packing pictures..

Enough padding to protect it from DHL.. Shorter bolts with a plastic lid holds the cylinder in place.

I also added my 450 cam to be reprofiled and two inner bushings so the crank can be transported in the case on the way home.

Are you able to disclose what they charge to reprofile the cam?
 
I didn't ask this time as I asked them in 2014, and I assume it will be in the same pricerange. This is the answer I got then:

Our stage 4 cam for your motor runs $425. The cam from your 450 is fine for a core.

Never had a clutch slip issue with the 610@ 62nm (wheel) and I don't know about the suter. But good job on the 660! You'll finish yours be for me, I've only just sent my cases away to be bored for the new cylinder and still waiting on the new head and other small parts. You'll need a cam chain adjuster from a 500exc (well that what I need with the cylinder TR supplied to me)
 
I'm sending my friends old 570 cylinder so I assume they will use that? So you didn't send in a cylinder to be changed but bought it from them?

Yeah I'm not too worried about the suter but as I have alot of options I threw the question out to see if anyone had some input.
 
I just bought mine outright, no cylinder to exchange with them as mine is totally munted :eek:.
 
I just got an email from Travis where he told me that my parts will probably be shipped next week! They had to send back the cranks to be remade as they didn't pass QA, so they still have to be assembled and balanced when they get them.

Can't wait to get my hands on it all :) I'm a bit behind on the rest of the engine/bike (I had to fix my car....), but my plan is to enjoy this process so I'm in no real rush.

I will make the rest of the bike look a bit better in parallel to the work on the engine. The frame need some love as some paint is gone in the usual places from it's life as enduro bike. Do anyone know the color code of the yellow 2012 frames?

Edit: color is Sulfur yellow 1016

2 months later and now it's finally ready to be shipped! It turned out that the key slot for the fly wheel was at the wrong angle so they had to send the crank back to the manufacturer, so we have been waiting on that.

So next up is to pay... I'm waiting for an invoice to my paypal account. It will hurt. Alot. So much so I had to cancel my trip to Isle of Man TT. But even though it's a big number it will over time be forgotten but my bike will remain!

So you had to buy a new cyl and cam?
 
Yes it seems so. I have a few questions to TR that I'm waiting to get an answer to. I will post when I know more.

Berglsmerg: how much did you pay for your cylinder?

The part number for that camshaft is for a standard KTM 530/500.
