Found this, barely holding the guide. Gotta sort out someone else's ham fisted spannering again!
Any ideas lads, looks tricky, not much material and quite shallow.

HeliCoil drill out 1 size bigger retap install HeliCoil being careful not go to deep may hit something or Loctite Form-A-Thread Repair good only to grade 5 SAE or 8.8 metric this a kind of epoxy. Used it on car water pump with no problems.

Yes looked at Helicoil and Timesert, just concerned because it's a shallow blind hole.
Don't know Form a Thread? I'll check it out.
 
A helicoil repair insert would be my first choice.
They come in various lengths, from 1 diameter long/deep, and up.
Make sure you don't drill too deep. Measure the hole with something and mark your drill just short of that length. (wrap tape around it or put a depth stop on it)

Looks like the larger drill bit for the Helicoil has enough clearance at the bottom of the hole to work without making the hole deeper. Breaking the tang off might be tricky but I'll try it in a piece of scrap ali first.
