Hey fellow husaberg owners,

I just got my berg project finished and everything seems to work!

I just cannot figure why my berg consumes oil.. Its mostly while i wheelie i have figured. I have blocked my rear vent and the frame, and fitted a one way valve in my breather mod routed to the swingarm overflow bottle. I have attached some pictures, then you can also see my finished project.

What do you think about the setup, is the hose too bent, or the valve too early in the line or?..

Engine is fairly new built with rings, valve seals etc..

I fill my oil up to about 1/3 of the oil glass, and after a single ride i refilled more than 200ml.. Then i had a commuting ride just low rpms and bike used almost nothing.. Its not like im revving the **** out of the bike, im really babying it..

I really hope you can help since solving this problem means alot to me..

Best regards, Christian.

I think your filter should be pointing up , and the highest position possible , like up near the top of the radiator ,that way the oil will drip back into the motor . In your setup it will just go to the ground

do you get any oil in your bottle ? or trace ?
if i have the same problem as you, and i think its for coming from the wheelie then yes i would think is the breather...

what could happen in your set up is that the oil get pass the one way valve

if you search some other set up online they are running it way higher then yours to prevent oil to come out and one way valve (or filter) in the end

Ps. I can see that wheelie bar on the back :p

Actually my breather is pointing towards the back of my bike aswell, might be. I think i will try running the breather up towards the coolant hose to the top of the radiator, maybe over my frame or something.. I dont know if the filter has to be pointing down, since it is a one way valve, it shouldnt be possible for the oil to go back inside the engine when it has passed the valve? I will check out some other routes, and also if the filter is wet inside! The valve is functioning, i can only blow my breath through one way.

oil wont go back after it pass the valve (thats why they call it like that )

that's a ruff idea on how i would run the system Image005.jpg

(in picture air needs to GO out...)

Alrighty, i think i will try and run it above the frame backbone and with the valve and filter on the way down like your picture.. Should stop my oil leak! Im not sure if a catchcan is necessary, i could run it back towards the swingarm pivot on the other side again though.

Thanks for helping man!

Oil breather mod

Maybe like this one, just with my one way valve before the filter.

thats the one :) ...catch can shouldn't be a problem all the oil should go back in the crankcase ...but as you wheelieing a lot (check if something is going out
''oil dripping on frame'' ) and then decide if to ran it in the bottle

no worries go and enjoy that wheelie bar :p

Filling the oil to 1/3 of the glass when cold is too much. I don't wheelie very much but
as the discussion goes, filling to bottom of glass when cold resulting in middle of glass when hot is the way to go.
On my 06 FS650 cold oil level is at bottom of the glass appearing to be something like 1/8 up.
At 155 hours I top off after a hard ride just merely an ounce or 2.
I run the stock breather

Breather mod

Hey guys,

So i found today that it isnt possible to fit it over the backbone of the frame due to my fuel tank.. The tank bends the hose completely and on the ignition side it isnt possible to turn the handlebar all the way without bending the breather completely.. Also is too difficult to run the hose down under the tank onto the backside of the cooler..

I have decided to run the same kind of route, just under the frame backbone, but alot higher then it is already. Have a look at the pictures!

What do you think of the route, it should be working i suppose?

That should do ...it's way much better then before ...have a try ...( I personally could think it still not enaught to prevent some oil to go out when wheeling) in the second picture what did you add in the middle of the tube? If its still leeking from breather I would add a spunge(similar to the standard one) to trap the oil in there to prevent it of ''splashing'' ...similar of what this guy is doing https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/...EErLEvSaM_LrD-s_NkiTVuA4khBXdXtIl4uA9s8EK-WvA

Or you could also ...because it's only bend on the ignition side and that's where is causing trubble try to run it on the front of the radiator .... the higher is better :)

Ill try and see how it works. Otherwise i will try and raise the filter and valve higher on the ignition/clutch side. I just figured that it might be a bad idea since the oil will lay upon the valve inside the tube since it cannot go back past the valve.. dont know if that is a good idea, the tube will end up being full of oil if alot goes past the valve?

Better then dealing with your work isn't it Taffy?nice fake review on your website :) ....basted ...it's a spunge trap http://taffmeisters.co.uk/images/80030089000.jpg it's the same system the husaberg use standard ...I do also agree with pollo that overfilling will increse the oil coming out ...put the breather as high as you can and see how it goes

Ps I am in work ( that's the only picture I found I really don't want to promote your buisness taffy)

Hi badstead yes it should be working
If you are still using a lot of oil you probably need to examine the oil rings on the piston and the reed valve inside the engine

Pipes look good !

With this setup im still consuming loads of oil.. Bike is smoking abit but not crazy much.. Im starting to think the worst - rings.. Had a brand new Wössner fitted around 85 hours ago.. Kinda ruins my day. Have to refill oil all the time.. Might be due to bad oil rings. Dont know if it is because i ran the stock breather and engine then ran low on oil..

How do i do a compression test on the berg? I will try running the breather up to the top of the radiator.

i don't think the breather will be problem in your case...

I never done a compression test on the husa.

my 2 cent On other bikes if they start smoking:
-valve steam oil seal
-head gasket
these 2 are easy check
-and last are rings but it's a pain you need to take the engine out :( (when my bike was smoking we could see that the oil was nicely sitting on the piston so we exclude the rings to be a problem ''its not an official check'')

maybe bush or other in here can suggest you some check

head gasket or rings is for me what is causing the problem

Im thinking about valve stem seals aswell. How could it be the head gasket? What would be the symptoms of the valve stem seals, and how do i figure if its stem seals or rings?

valve seal symptoms of smoking are mostly on start up not riding condition

Head gasket failure or rings makes the bike smoke on riding condition ....but head gasket is what I would be looking for first

I replaced head gasket or valve seal from symptoms even new if put incorrectly can develop fault

My 2 cent would be to have bike check
(I just don't want to say 100% replace head gasket or strip the engine to check rings as somentime fault can develop in area that you never expected)
Normally if bike smoke on start up ---> valve steam seal
Normally Bike smoke on riding ---> rings, head gasket

Mine had a crack on the reed valve :) you don't expect that
