2004 Fe550e first non Japanese bike..I hate my modded xr600r. Too hard to start and it hurts me half the time. Thought I could handle an exotic.
Not so sure now. I cant even figure out how to get spark plug out to check it, and get to TDC for a valve adjustment
Didnt realize till today im not supposed to use the E start cold but it took a bunch of cranks to get it to fire after I cleaned the carb(it was all jammed up from the PO
I replaced the water pump seal and the kick starter is not functional/ I searched the forums and found that I need to reset the spring..unfortunately I didnt understand the explanation(the exploded view in manual didnt help either). If someone has a picture of this spring and its location and what the trick is to get the dadgum sparkplug out, I would be in your debt!

Ok thx Husabutt..found that facebook video...perfect!...now do I have to take the valve cover off to get the plug out?..my 14mm thin wall long socket wont fit in there

Use the Husaberg spark plug wrench. Hopefully the bike came with one. A very thin walled socket would also work.
You can use a long zip tie down the spark plug hole to gauge when you are at TDC. Make sure to set the valves at TDC on the compression stroke.
You can use the e-start even when cold imo. Husaberg called the starter on the 01 and 02’s a restarter as an excuse because they had the e-start system so screwed up. The bugs were mostly ironed out on the 04-08 models.
When taking the side cover off lightly tap or push down on the kick start shaft so that the kick start spring stays in place

You don't have to take the rocker cover off. The Husaberg plug wrench works best and yes it is a tight fit.

I have a snap-on socket and I ground around the top to give it a beehive look. or buy a Husaberg box socket one OK? we sell them. 7 days to you...better than half your US suppliers I reckon anyway!

..or just cut off the big end of an ace hardware el cheapo and drill a hole in it

Taffy.. Be nice! Thx to you for putting up your videos..that clutch side case cover one, was a big help. When i get used to working on this thing you wont have such an easy time picking on me...thx again....ever seen anything so pathetic as a bike with the kick starter on the wrong side?(kinda like driving on the wrong side...kidding) I'm the poster boy of "pathetic" trying to kick this thing!
