Buying a 2012 FE570. What to look out for?

I'm taking a look at 3 'berg 570's on Friday.

All are 2012 models with the yellow frame.

One has 1400km ($7300AUD), One has 3100km ($7000AUD negotiable) and the last one has 9K+kms ($5500AUD)

A few extras, but not much. The first two look to be in very good condition.

#1 is not registered, but has previously been registered and has all the bits.
#2 has about a month of rego.
#3 is a dealer and it will come with 6 months rego.

I'm just wondering if there is anything I should be looking out for when I'm inspecting them?

I'd personally be going for the one with the least hours on it.
Just check the usual, wheel bearings, shock bearings..etc look at parts that may need replacing and try negotiate.
What website are they on? Bikesales and/or Gumtree?
There's a mint '12 somewhere with all black plastics and only 24h but he wants 9.5k
 
Also check drain plug magnet for metal. See if oil is new or old. Old with little to metal great new oil and a lot of metal walk away.

I dont know ANY bike owner that will allow you to mess with his engine, let-alone drain/ lose part of his engine oil to look at the drain plug as a part of your bike inspection before buying it.

Well, ask if you can make an oil change and pay 10 bucks for the oil.
But it is usually the gearbox that leaves trails. Dont have to mean its worn out. And its hard to feel a bad gearbox if the clutch May need some new oil for instance.

If you like The bike, buy it. You will have to spend some money to go threw it, both so you know everything is good and for your personal reference. Even with a brand new bike!
 
I personally wouldn't mind if a potential buyer was serious and respectful and asked if we could have a look at the oil filter. If they were an *** about it I'd not like it.

It's easy to just lay these bikes down and pop open the oil bolt things on the bottom :)
 
$10 for the oil? I need to know where your buying oil? Costs me nearly $100 for 4L.

And you can also just tilt the bike over on its side and quickly undo the sump plug and put it back in...
 
You lay the bike over take off the drain plug at look it that's all put it back on. If he/she doesn't let you do that then I'd walk away! No changing oil. But ride the bike first.
 
If I was selling a bike and someone seemed genuinely interested i don't think I'd object to an oil change/inspection.

I'm currently using some Elf FS oil I get on Ebay for around £6/Litre. I used Shell Helix FS car oil:eek:!!! ( found it at a great price) for over 200 hrs and had zero issues. Only stopped using it as the supply dried up. Motorex here is very pricey. Why pay big prices when something half the cost is just as good? Never done it and never will but everyone has there own opinions on oil of course. Just sayin'.

You should take care to only fall in love in your 570, not all 570s!. Stick to one!!

If not your garage might end up like this (love them to bits, litterally....).

Sweden. Actually i dont even pay that. I buy 20liters for about 160 bucks.
 
So... I bought the one with the lowest mileage. Only 42 hours. I got him down to $7k, but that included the Akro pipe (and standard one)

I noticed the price of the second one has now dropped to $6.5k.

I didn't even consider the one with 9k+ kms from the dealer. Both of the other bikes were in so much better condition they were easily worth the extra $1.5k.

I can't collect it for a couple of weeks as he's working in Central Queensland. We've entered into a gentlemans' agreement that I am going to buy the bike at the agreed price when he returns. No money has changed hands yet and he's pulled the ad.

Gives me time to sell the Tiger and get a trailer organised. 7 hour return trip to collect it.

So... Excited??

Beautiful!!! I found the sweet, sweet handling character to sort of slowly reveal itself as I got used to the bike. Kind of by noticing slowly what it "doesn't" do that the DR-Z does. Like an undercurrent stops all of a sudden.

Kind of the same for the power. Very subtle and magical bike. (And also not very subtle when the front wheel goes up with a SNORT! Not very subtle the barking 21st-century darth-vader intake noise either!)
