Started to pull the motor apart to check it over, what do you reckon to this!

Piston stamped 8370A 10827M10200 Wiseco? Can't find it online? Nice valve marks!
Conrod Made in Japan 3TB K
Crankshaft billet? Different crank gear thread, no top dead centre indentation,
Any ideas?:spin:
 
Cheers Spanner, think you could be right. First owner said it had standard pork chop, last owner said it was made in Germany!! Engine was fitted with balancer, I would of thought JBS would of had it balanced!
Any idea on conrod and piston? I have identical piston in spares box that has no markings at all!

You reckon that bigger thread's there to try and address the dreaded primary drive gear nut coming loose? More surface area and maybe more fetch?

I wonder if that piston is in fact a Wiseco 'built on demand item'?

That part number (the 10827m10200) is very similar to anything they list as a custom run on their catalogue and may explain why it's not easily found? Just a theory...

Here's the crank gear nut with a tab washer and thread lock shouldn't be coming undone ever!;)

Spoke with a lady at Vic Eastwood motorcycles, UK Wiseco importer, almost certainly as Damo said it's a special and is 'owned' by JBS. She will try to get the spec from the US and email it back to me. Don't think I need a piston but may need some rings which she says will be no problem.
 
Piston weighs 308.4g as does the spare. I think the standard Elko is about 280?
Seemed to be a little play around the gudgeon pin so I tried the spare and it was pretty much the same. I tried a brand new KTM pin that came as an unordered extra with the Elko kit, if I remember it was much heavier than the Elko which had a tapered internal bore, the KTM pin is a perfect fit, all three weigh 79g and share the same dimensions.
The Wiseco has 4 oilways, the Elko 2. From the piston crown to the centre of the gudgeon pin is 24.6 on both the Wiseco and the standard Elko.
Both billet and standard cranks appear to weigh the same, 4.7kg, the billet a little more, kitchen scales aren't the best for this work, I have to wait for the little dragon to go out!:spin:

Not made much progress lately, other stuff is getting in the way!
Thought I'd post a few pics of the fine work the last engine builder did, I sent him a message regarding the engine and he replied to ring him as he knew Husabergs inside out.....erm!
The lads I bought the engine off said that it had boiled over a couple of times, I checked that the radiator was warming up and it was.....surprising really!

The back of the impellor is badly chewed up and probably ruined! Shame as it's a piece of art, oh well:unsure:
No circlip or pin fitted. Both halves of the crankcases.

Jeez that oil looks awful. Can see they were really onto the maintenance !

Hopefully you don't find too much more 'bad news!'

looks like another one where diesel oil sheared off the water pump impeller pin again

Yes, diesel oil has a lot to answer for!!:spin::spin::spin:

Here's more fine work, in the spares box a balancer shaft gear and a crank gear both with chamfers cut for tab washers but the crank gear I removed didn't have a chamfer......but it did have a tab washer!:spin:
The engine may have been assembled in the dark? If I hadn't heard the motor running I'd be using it as a paperweight!:)

Imagine how strong it will run when you get it built again, properly, as it was still managing to run in that state. Do we dare ask about the top end condition?

JBS also sold a heavy duty connecting rod, which is wider in the beam, probably what you have here as well.

The head, valves etc all look good, KTM cam of unknown origin. Not going to use it though, I'm going to fit the RTS gas flowed head with oversized valves and use the standard '08 cam. This head was fitted to the motor I boiled to death at the start of the season!:spin:
Can't recommend RTS enough, the motor made more power everywhere, proper engineers, in a shed in the middle of nowhere. I gave them the cam specs off this forum and the '08 "is a very good cam"
