Congrats. Can I have a newbie forum? I'd like to ask if a starter relay and a starter solenoid are the same thing but I'm scared to ask in the regular forums (fora?)

No and no :)

It seems to be that it is. Parts manual calls it a "relay"...

Anyway I think we should all sing kumbaya and get along.

I would vote for splitting General into Off-Road / On-Road or Dirt / Pavement.

I don't think that's a slippery slope towards creating too many forum categories.

Motorcycles don't have solenoids as far as I know.

Description: A starter solenoid mounts directly to the starter. Although similar to the starter relay, the solenoid converts electrical energy into linear motion. The solenoid contains a set of windings that, when energized, cause movement of the solenoid?s plunger, which then engages the starter.

Purpose: The starter solenoid supplies the high current needed to run the starter motor and also provides the force needed to engage the starter.

On some bikes (my 97 for instance) but not the 01 or 05, when you turn the key on you can hear the starter relay "click" as it makes contact. Since some relays make noise as they engage you could assume that they are a solenoid of sorts but they are not

Husaberg is one of very few MFG's that produce a SM out of the box.....a race ready one at that.....In my humble opinion this site needs a stand alone Super Moto section....might as well lay the ground work now, its gonna get popular.....although I enjoy wading through all the sections to gather VERY HELPFUL info, I think a Dirt bike set up to ride/race on tarmac has different issues and really deserves its own section..... Just my 2 c's

brian

you have a lot to say and you've asked for a lot of help already!

cams, exhausts, carbs everything-you name it you're up for it-good for you. but there IS nothing about tuning an engine that isn't being done NOW by the MX and enduro boys. that's it-that's us-right now!

so give it a break fella. take a chill pill.

regards

Taffy

Give it a break......take a chill pill.......... :?
A forum such as this is designed to exchange Ideas, meet great folks who share a common love of motorcycles and build comrodery amongts fellow Husaberg enthusiasts...........Perhaps you are the one that needs to give it a break........as for the chill pill......thats up to you....I'd hate to upset you further by suggesting you take one.......

Hey, this here thread is entertaining! :D Some of you guys are really getting the fur up. I think I'd get a few more chuckles if I could translate the slang from over the pond; but I get the main intent.

On solenoids, yes there are solenoids on the Bergs. Or at least my 98 has one under the seat. It came that way out of the box. Sometimes they can be called contactors, relays, and other names too.

Barry

Where will it end? We will then need a MX forum, an Enduro forum, Hare and Hound forum, desert forum, woods forum, trail riding forum, women's only forum and god forbid we forget to include a flat track forum.

You can't register a FS Berg for street use in California anymore and California usually spreads it disease so your state (or country) will probably be next. I just don't see Supermoto growing by leaps and bounds except maybe in Europe for awhile at least until the pollution laws become stricter.

I forgot to vote. I vote "no", as it violates the current organizational theory of the site.

But you guys keep posting. It is making a good read. Haven't had one of these for a while.

Gosh, what a thread... Been offline for two weeks (holidays) and enjoyed
my FS a lot! Never expected a simple question could cause an earthquake...

I'm tired of joining this discussion/clash (may be I got the thread wrong and
it's all coruscating humor)...

Taffy, you're a disputatious and at the same time humorous guy but as this
is an international site (I'm sure you agree) there is a good chance not
everyone understands the specific British sense of humor.

General remarks:
- All Husaberg riders/owners should share their experiences, tips & tricks
(that's what happened on UHE)
- IMHO no one here should blame another for the type of Berg he/she owns and rides
(everyone to his taste, accepted by everyone)

Supermoto remarks:
- Many SM riders (or Sado Masochists if you prefer) are also MX riders/racers
(and vice versa)
- Sometimes SM riders get dirty:

It's OK Brian, Taffy is right about the fact that tuning stuff is being done right now.

It's just that he hasn't been around for long enough on this forum to know that we already did all this "tuning" stuff about 4 or more years ago and that many of the Husaberg engine updates are in fact based upon those experiences. Bless.

I still vote for the "Husaberg S&M do-it-yourself ahead of time engine test and development area"

Cheers,
Simon

Taffy you forgot to eat your scones my friend. The subject is "do we want a new forum", not "let's bash the French". There are entire Web sites on the subject, although most have gone AWOL now.

Now that some of the dust has settled and perhaps Taffy has been able to save up a few pounds to refill his medication .i figured i could offer a few reasons for a seperate supermoto forum. there of course are definate similarities between a fe,fc and a sm.but much of the difference is the riding style ,riding terrain, and speeds that make someone who is into motards not perhaps into trail riding or mx.example, posts about horsepower and exhaust pipes dont get my pulse up as i cant even push my 400 as hard as it is able and neither can most of us for that matter so why do i want to talk about it much.in sm,horsepower is very important so extracting every bit possible is relevant.or here is another example,do you think the SM racer has any real interest in proper suspension set up for the trail rider.or which knobby works best in the sand, and how about this getting a trail rider attention-"is there any race slicks that will make it thru the weekend"?differences are numerous regarding safety gear as Taffy likes to point out.he obviously is attracted to men in leather and is acting out aggressively against them so as to stymee his repressed feelings.another thing i noticed about sm bikes is they have little smooth tires and are ridden very fast on relatively smooth tar.this is just so different than what dirt guys do and it is getting very popular and Husaberg has some real good bikes offered for SM so why not welcome it as it is ,"a new frontier of motorsports".lets perpetuate the movemnt and as we do it will grow more and there will be a lot more SM input and particapation on this website.you will see!dan. :eek:ccasion5:

and the <blank> has it...

hey all,

In the hopes that the crew would come to a unanimous decision(what, it could happen!), I left the thread alone, but after a month, everybody seems to be holding their ground, so here's the tie breaker:

Go to the top of any page in this thread, and you'll see a poll. Vote. The people with the most votes get what they want.

thanks,
json

OK, time to close voting.

It's obvious, with 100% of the vote, that we need a Supermoto forum :propellerhead:

dan

i can only think you just can't stand back and see that it will damage the forum. seperating people away for an unnecassary reason is not a good step for the forum overall.

there is a TECHNICAL post at the moment on the kickstart crescent = no input from SM folk. you seem to think it will get the site more technical articles but the truth is you want to be given the SM knowledge ASAP so you can use it in your business.

i can tell you now that SM riders will keep their knowledge to themselves. hard earnt info will still be kept a secret.

we have an article on my bike not running right at low revs having put in larger exhaust valves. simon (SM fan and devotee) HAS joined in with this one but it as usual has quietened the rest of UHE down. nobody else does anything technical from the SM side and having a seperate group won't change that. dale is a flattracker. so the two with the biggest technical input DON'T come from that arena.

clearly, tuning articles leave SM riders completely out of their depth as much as MX or enduro.

another thing that concerns me-again-is this thing about you want different things to us? we have far, far more in common than that which we don't. you should be thinking of reasons to stick together and not be so devisive.

i don't understand (json!!!!) why the subject line can't continue to fit in our regular forum catagories but have a traffic light colour in the top left corner as i have previously described where you indicate where your post is aimed. SMO. END. MX. FLT. TRL. GEN.

the vast majority of SM threads would STILL be flagged as 'general' (if you were to be as open and inclusive as possible!).

this is not an inclusive move-it's divisive. the site will be all the poorer for it. i wonder how many of you will vote for the good of the site or for yourselves? i hope those with a more neutral stance will consider this when voting.

those that have followed this thread will have seen that there are many, many people who feel this isn't a wise move for UHE.

regards

Taffy

Taf,

I can see your various points in this thread and have voted "No" accordingly, but you really need to use the Emoticons when using your style of humour. If you think the british have a weird sense of humour, Australians are renowned for their left field humour - especially when the going is tough. It wouldn't surprise me if an Aussie was asked by a Heathrow customs officer "have you got anything to declare", He'd probably say something like "Na mate, just a few detonators and a few kg of C4". I hope you get my drift.
PS what is this about an Australian farmer joke.......

Cheers

Mark
