Hi, does anyone know if the steering head bracket for the pivot post for an RFS ktm steering damper fit or can be easily made to on a 07 FE650?

I have a Scotts damper, and need to get an under bar mount. I can get a cheap ktm mount set up, just don't know if it will fit. I believe the FE may have a narrower steering head. So just wondering if anyone has done it to save some pain.

Thanks Bushie, there was nothing in there, but it was a good morning read. Welding a post isn't a problem, I still need to sort a plate to mount it under the bars and they usually come with each other. Currently nursing some broken bones from a get off so can't play in the shed. Be a while before I can ride again so I've got time.

I see

apparently this is a BRP mount

Yeah, Scotts make one, I was quoted $219 locally for the sub mount and two weeks delivery. Cheaper than ordering from the US. But I have a bit of KTM stuff kicking around I just can't swing any spanners to see if it fits. So thought on the off chance some one may know.

you could compare the part numbers between the ktm top tripple clamp and the husaberg ones

munnracing.com has both fiches

Tripple clamp clamps onto the steering stem. The damper stay bracket clamps onto the headstock. I know the headstock is a bit smaller on the Husaberg. I'll be good in a couple of weeks and tear it apart, I've resigned myself to waiting. Not like I'll be riding anytime soon. 6 months before I can crash again. I was just trying to kill the boredom by shopping for parts.

I'll post when I work it out.

Okay, I couldn't help myself I pulled it apart. KTM post clamp wont fit. The sub mount for the bars will, as I expected.

Well now that I've recovered from my injuries, and have gotten over the sleep deprivation I had another look at this. I got the KTM sub bar mount damper to fit. An over the bar mount would be a lot easier.

I had to make some blocks to raise the Scotts mounting plate to clear the stem nut, as the KTM one has a lower profile. On the Scotts the bar clamps bolt to the mounting plate. I drilled out the threads and used longer bolts so the bar clamps bolted through the plate, through my blocks and into the top triple clamp. I figured this would be a stronger way of mounting.

I had to make a longer spigot for the pivot post. The pivot post clamp is a larger diameter than the Husaberg steering neck so I used an egg ring that I have had lying around my shed for 25 years because I knew that one day it would make a good shim. Perfect fit.

The only hiccup was that by lengthening the pivot post spigot it increased the angle away from the damper and put rearward pressure on the damper arm causing it to squeak when turning when it was bolted down. Had me confused for awhile. I ground a bit of the back of the spigot and problem fixed.

There's a lot more used dampers for sale for KTM's than there is for old Husabergs so I hope this might help someone.

Some more pics as I'm still getting a handle posting them. First one is the spigot I turned up in my old Myford lathe. The blocks I made to raise the clamps and the standard bar clamp bolts and the longer ones that I found that may of come with a KTM bar raiser kit. You can always buy longer ones from a bolt shop and grind or turn the the top of the heads down to fit under the bars. The photos are a bit blurry to hide my poor workmanship.
