Gday all,

Trying to get a roadworthy on my 650E bloke says the headlight and tail light too dull, not riding it at night didn't notice.

It is very dull, would never ride at night with it, brand spankers battery, estart works a treat, 2.6V at the headlight.

Anyone got any ideas where to start, did read the manual, nothing there, wiring diagram does not show a weak point, cept regulator and that's fine.

As I just bought it, and the bloke proir had given it a good wash, I did as the manual says, sprayed WD40 in the light (left hand switch) circuit, sort of thought this may help as the horn switch is a bit dicky as well.

Still dull as headlight.

Now what, anyone ?

oops, wrong forum, can a mod please place this in the electrics section please.

I'd. Be tracing that wire that has 2.4 v on it back. Find out where it stops having 12v. I think your light needs 12 v. I'd be checking grounds too.

also be good to know what year bike it is.

Sorry, 2006.
Yea this Sunday I have off, will try then, but to get to the electricals, looks like a tank off job.
Not really a drama, and Im reasonably mechanical, but I just want to get out on the thing, damit lol
Next Sat I go home for 10 days, then a fortnight of work before a day off, so, ride sunday, or do electricals, and wait near a month before a ride grrr

Hi David

this may not be your problem but it could help someone.

on my 08 I found the main power generating coil had almost shorted out, its a common problem with this stator in ktms and ive seen it in one other berg.

it measured OK with the meter but wouldn't make any power

the 2 ends of the coil(s) are routed side by side and twisted together on their way to the terminal block where the flexible wires are soldered on.

the insulation of these 2 enameled copper wires wears off where they rub together.

if you open the cover the power generating coils are everything on the main stator (bolted inside the cover) except the one covered in black bog, it powers the sparks.

the small one bolted to the cases outside the flywheel is the pulse coil.

concerning bushies remarks above: here's a pic of my '04 coil where the solder joint of the gen melted.
