On oil change there was a lot of filings + blue plastic in the mesh filter, having removed the clutch side cover I found that a tooth from the cam gear was missing, found it lying in the bottom of the casing. Question is are all the fliings from this or do I have other problems?

I can only post 3 pics so will Start another thread about the cam tensioner.

Is the cam gear aluminum? Are the filings steel or aluminum?
 
Yep the cam gear is Aluminum and is quite worn on the inside.
Will post a photo tomorrow + check if the filings are metal or alli.

If you look at my other post you can see that the cam tensioner is hardly worn.
 
I can't see what you have but if that red thingie is pointing at a missing tooth well the bloody gear is made of steel!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be very surprised if your starter freewheel doesn't shag about three teeth the next time you touch the button.

has anyone changed any of the gears, clutch basket, sprague freewheel or anything like that recently?

you HAVE TO find a 2001 gear to repalce that one. the 2001 intermediate gear has the part number on the back I believe.

230 130 01

Agreeed the gear with the missing tooth is steel :cheers: however the gear attached to the cam is aluminum and worn as you can see in the Pic.[attachment=0:1emu52bd]Husa12.jpg[/attachment:1emu52bd]

No El start to worry about, + I found the loose piece :bounce3:

I guess the 2 gears + chain need to be replaced as well as the tensioner?

Is the nut on the gear Right Hand thread :?:

secondly
the cam chain tensioner blade was superceded so don't use it again

thirdly
a missing tooth means you shouldn't attempt to use that gear again. it has nothing to do with a tooth being 'lost'. I'm glad you found it! it is about NOT fitting it again! your clutch basket will be lightly damaged and that'll strip teeth off the freewheel inner gear of your sprague assembly. seconds let alone minutes. make good all teeth to perfection. no high points whatsoever.

they no longer make the inner freewheel gear for the 2001.

Will replace the broken Gear? and check the clutch gear for damage.

You did not awnser my question about the nut on the gear, is it a RH / Normal thread?

Looked for a engine No without any luck :angry: how the hell can you make a motor without a number??
Only number of sorts I can find is the inside of the clutch cover that sugests that the cover was made in October 2000.

How can I be sure on the year? I only have the motor, no bike etc..

put up a few photos of the back of the crankcases around the swing arm hole.

Here we go :arrow: There is a number 213 written on both of the casings, I assume to identify a matching pair?

When I moved to Sweden 10 years back from a gungho South Africa I was told everything is done correctly + by the book. What a lot of BS that was 8O

Hope you can identify the year for me.

It's more than likely an 01 due to the fact it has an aluminum cam S-P-R-O-C-K-E-T. Possibly an 02, but I would say 01. the amazing part is that it lasted this long. They went to steel by 03.
 
well the alloy cam sprockets I pull out are in perfect nik Ken! no idea why, even the chains look more shagged out!

as for the cases I think that they are 2002 cases but I haven't any 2001s here to check them against. would be nice to see a photo of around the gearbox gear - sorry! gearbox sprocket area!

Looks like the last 3 didgets have been stamped over :|

Thanks Taffy, How do the numbers work?

Looking at a parts list the gear for an 02 has a number 230 146-01 + the 01 = 230 131-01.


Is there a difference?
Do you have these spares in stock?

that gear is no longer available. the 2001 that is.

there should be some stamped numbers on the back of one of the three gears?
