hello,
have a question on a 1998 fc 400. is the cdi built in the coil pack or is it it,s own unit. i recieved the bike in parts and did not notice one, and are they still available and can i find a picture of one anywhere. thanks to all

It is built into the coil, if you have a dark red coil with a red, black, green, and yello wire coming from it (and a plug wire of course) you are good to go, its the whole 2nd half of the ignition system, the only other part other is the stator......

I think he has the later ignition module?

it should be black and have either 5 or 7 wires coming out - the FC had 5. all you need to do as bergini says is connect the stator wires to the coil (ignition module) wires and isolate everything else off/out the way at this point.

look for an I.M. for sale on ebay but it must be from a 400. it can be from any 400 from any year after 1997. iif its black its good but it must be a 400. 2003 was the last year and each year they modified the ignition curve to make them better so if you can find a 2002 or 2003 that would be good!

if yours is kaput - I get them repaired.

regards

Taffy
