"Upgrade" a FS650 2001

Hi !
I want to upgrade a little bit my FS650 from 2001 :D,so I have some questions...
- Can I put on a complet clutch cover from a 2004+ ?
- To install a Keihin FCR,can I keep the intake and air cleaner boots from the Dellorto carb ? (2001 and 2004+ cylinder heads are not same)

I think the sidecover does fit.

yes you can keep the inlet rubber and the rubber boot. you will need to remove though, 5mm from the inlet rubber.

the factory have just stopped making inlet rubbers so be careful!

If you email I can bring you right up to date on good improvements updating your engine.

The 04' clutch cover has an extra bolt that goes into the engine case by the kickstarter to stop the notorious leak in that area. The 01' case will not accept this bolt. Also, the 01' shift lever won't fit an 04' clutch cover. Otherwise, it may fit.

One other issue with the side cover fitment. The shift shaft for the 04 is different as well. The 04 lever splines are a different diameter. I am going to try and use the 04 shift shaft mechanism as well one day when I get a chance.

So I think I will forget the idee of changing the clutch cover :cry:

By the way,a FCR inlate for 2001 doesn't exist ?
 
read carefully. they are not saying you can't use it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that is because they didn't use the FCR till 2004 and then they changed the system. the head is cast with the male on the back so that the rubber is simply a double female.

you can use the original rubber by taking 5mm off the back. perhaps you don't understand me?

But I am thinking that is many parts to change to adapt the new cover,so is it really interesting just to have the removable clutch cover... :?

PS: Ya du y avoir un soucis,si tu m'as repondu,sur 17" pck elle apparait pas :D .Le comble de venir sur un forum UK pour me la redonner :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
clutch cover will fit ok you need the water pump outlet aswell . and a after market gear lever . ive not had any probs with mine ! the only reason i fitted mine was to make life easy when i was setting my slipper clutch up !
and rubber inlet is the same as used on one of the ktm,s think its rfs !!
schleenbecker manifold will fit a 01

what slipper clutch have you got ?? iam running a stm in mine but i had to change the main shaft for a later 04 type !! and had to uses a 04 clutch basket !!
 
So !
Got the intake and the original ruber.
Tried to fit the FCR but doesn't work :(

The fuel pipe on the carb is touching the exhaust and the hot starter is on the frame :x
Any idees ?
 
lower the silencer onto aluminium brackets so that the head pipes only just go over the clutch/crankcase and hug the frame post. this should take you away from the carb a little. you can carefully file away some material around the carb inlet.

The FCR is defnetly a close call, you have to be pacient and solving the problems as they come, I got to the point that I even changed all the wiring for one side to the other.
If you have the alum intake and the 04 rubber its avery good start, pay atenttion there is one rubber specific for the 650 in the 2004 parts manual, don't know why beacause I have one 400, but it can be because your cilinder is higher, and maybe thats the problem with the hot start.
You don't have a lot to play, but you can rotate the carb a bit, to take the hot start away from the frame and the fuel line away from the exhaust.

I have protected the fuel line and the exhaust because of the heat.
Also used a boot from my 98 600, because the angle was better, but mainly because it is a bit short and much smoother, so it was much easier to put and to take out for jetting.

The rubber I had is a 450 model,I put a 650 and all fine,magic !

Than finaly suceed starting the bike,after many kicks and choke on.When choke off the bike stall
I thinks I'm going in the wrong way,I was leaning insted of riching.Before the bike don't start at all !

Have now MJ 168 and PJ 45,but about 3.5 turn of PS for getting the bike runing :(
Maybe little more on PJ ?
 
I think you have the baffle plate on the front face of the carb slide fitted the wrong way up. when you turn the carb around and look into it from the front you should see 'M' and not 'W' and the 6mm hole should be at the bottom and not the top.
