auxilary under seat fuel tank

does anybody know where to find an under seat auxilary fuel tank for a 2005 fs650e. I heard that husaberg made some but my dealer has never heard of it. I've seen some pics of them in the photo gallery (baja_racer) and Phillis had one for sale but I missed out. any help would be apreciated. If I can't find one I might have to get one fabricated to look like an exhaust can.

I am not sure if they would fit the '00-'08 frames but I had one for my '96 FE501that was made in the US by an outfit called Eric's motorcycles (or something like that) and I think they were located in California. It seems like the skid plate I had on it came from them also - I bought both items from a dealer and don't remember for sure. The fuel cell sat under the seat behind the shock but I think I had to move the rear brake resevoir to install it. I do think it would fit the later frames and if I still had it I would try it on my '05 but it went away with the '96 FE501.

I have an auxilary tank on my 01 Fe501 and the thing is a pain! I disconnected it because it would create a siphon effect from the main tank and fuel would start pouring out of the vent. I want to take it off but i dont have the mud guard that comes stock with the bike so I left it on. But besides all that it is made by acerbis and the part number out of the 2001 genuine husaberg parts cat. is 160187-01 and it says that it fits all models from 2000- except the fr600e. Hope this helps.

The under seat tank that I used years ago had a separate vent line so siphoning/over-flowing was never an issue. It was made out of welded aluminum and fit in front of the mud guard, behind the shock. The only drawback to it was main fuel tank removal became a lot more difficult because the auxillary tank plumbed into the main fuel line with out any shut-off and I had to drain all the fuel out first or have a mess on the shop floor. I thought about installing an in-line fuel valve between the aux. tank and the main fuel line but never did.

I contacted eric's motorcycles and he has two left in stock for the older frames. he said the only diference was the subframe was a little narower (1/4 inch) on the newer frames but with minor modifications it will fit in. the tank is made from aluminium and holds aprox 3 litres of fuel, I will add an inline on/off switch. the price of the gas tank is 170$, I don't know what the price of the oem one is.

AJW30 look at baja-racer's gallery. on his tank he added a vent line from the auxliary tank to the main tank because of gas coming out of the vent tube, now his system is a closed loop and if any fuel goes through the vent line it drops into the main tank.

I would be real curious to know what you need to modify to make the old syle fuel cell fit - I just went out and looked at my '05 FE550 noticed that the bottom of the shock angles back a lot more than the old style frames with linkage and there is appears to be considerably less room between the shock and mud guard.

The other alternative would be to get a 4 gallon tank (Clark made them, I believe, and I think that Offroad Boss in Portland, OR has them) which would give you a full gallon more capacity than the stock + underseat cell would. The 4 gallon tanks do not appear to be that much wider than the stock ones. I've not personally used one although I saw one on a bike last weekend at a race.

I made a portable alluminum fuel bottle that straps in. It's been shaped and welded together to fit.
I also have a tool case of the same shape that usually goes there when I don't need the extra fuel.
The cap I welded on the fuel bottle is from an MSR fuel bottle. It has a vent release and O-ring for built up
pressure. It holds 70 ounces. And it works great.

Minor modifications with what how big of a hammer?
Spend the time to search down the plastic oem aux. tank made for your bike or you'll waste $170.00 imo.

Spend the time to search down the plastic oem aux. tank made for your bike or you'll waste $170.00 imo. That one also will need minor mods such as cutting the tab that holds the electrical unit then finding a new place to mount said unit. Other than that, it fits beautifully and works very well. I've had mine since 2002.

I saw the lagrer fuel tanks on e-bay for $179.99. I thought about geting one, but when I went back to look the add was gone.
I remember reading that they had a large stock of them in different colors.
Any one know who the seller was???

I have already ordered the gas tank !ops!

If I need to modify anything it will be the aluminium tank. I just need an aproximate shape. obviosly the closer the better. If the tank is way off I could always just return it.

Something else I got to thinking about regarding using one of the Eric's fuel cells with the '00-'08 frames is the depth of them. The fuel cells were designed to work with the '89-'99 FE gas tanks which used a fuel pump to transfer the gaas from the right side (which came down almost to the engine case - much lower than the carb) to the left side where the petcock was located. If I remember right, the plumbing from the Eric's aux. fuel cell plumbed into the lower right side of the tank and depended on the fuel pump to utilize it. I will be real interested to learn if it will work with the newer ('00-'08) tanks.

good point about the fuel pump. as long as it sits higher that the inlet line for the carburator I will be ok. When I receive it I will see what need's to be done and if not too many modifications have to be done I will document what I have done to make it work.

I received my aux tank from eric's motorcycle today and it looks really nice. It went in the bike with no modifications needed. Now for the problems. the bottom of the tank sits about 4-5 inches below the float height of the carburator. I don't feel like cutting the tank because I would loose around 1.2l of fuel making it and aux tank that holds only 1.3l. I have sent out some pms to some people to see if anyone has the oem aux tank lying around.

That is what I was afraid of - the tank is designed for the '99 and earlier FE models and is apparently the same one I used with my '96. Bummer....
