So because the sun was shining I decided to finally check why the kickstart engages so badly and late in the stroke. Here's what I found...

The kickstart gear has some smaller marks from the locking pawl, otherwise it looks fine.
Kickstart shaft has some quite big marks. Does it matter that it's not flawless? No photos on that one though. Maybe replace it just because?
Locking pawl looks brand new though.
Engagement sledge is, as seen in the pics, pretty banged up and will be replaced.
The screws holding the sledge were a bit loose so I guess I've been quite lucky...

So what parts do I need or should I replace?
It's for the 501 -02

Best regards

/Nick

yeah i have my '01 FC550 apart at the moment with a broken starter shaft (seems to be a ridiculously expensive part!) and noted that my crescent plate screws were loose also, my crescent is marginally better than yours looks.

New screws, loctite, and tight !! i will de-swarf my crescent and leave it as is.

Azza.
