guy was selling a 96' Husqvarna 610a on craigslist and I saw the husa 600 in his garage and I talked him out of it instead, he said it ran until the auto decomp bolt came out of cam gear and locked motor

easy fix then!

but sometimes people use a $2 problem to keep you away from the $1,000 clunkin noise.....

welcome to UHE - I should have mentioned that first!

2000 fe600 new purchase update

trying to breath life back into this husa 600, removed auto decomp lever bolt wedged between kickstart gear and clutch drum gear.Engine now spins free, charged batt and cranked over with starter (starter sounds sick) no spark, ohmed out stator...open between red and black, ordered new electrex from ebay cuz I could get it in a couple days and I was anxious to see what I had (sorry Taffy) arrived yesterday and was disappointed to see windings unsealed and wires smaller gauge than original and their orientation where they break out from unit is 90 degrees away from hole in stator hsg.where harness needs to go through, reconfigured and ziptied harness to work for now (figuring I'll send original to Taffy and use this one as a spare) starter worked for a couple spins then shot craps but have spark now so kick started and runs with choke on only then fuel fouls spark plug, noticed fuel seeping from float bowl gasket so I guess I'll need to go through carb and get new starter and go from there

The Electrex stator has been purported to damage the coil. This seems to have happened to many here. You have been duly warned. Something about they do not contain a zenner diode.

The float bowel gasket is very thin to start with so when they get old they easily leak.

Good luck and keep us posted. Some pics would be great.

A new starter motor from Husaberg is $650.00

This is probably a correct cross reference but I am not sure.

the electrex stator needs to be ******** to within 1mm of the end of the adjustment slots. I have set the timing on about 20 of them over the years and the first 10 I did you had to ****** them all the way and then on the last 10 you leave them 1mm from the end as said. I'm not sure how any of this came about or why but there you are.

always set the ignition timing on any Husaberg with a strobe/timing light. they want to be 6d BTDC. also you should mark the ignition flywheel with a new line equadistant to the right of the first two and then tipp-ex it white. that is TDC.

the electrex produces over 3,000ohms - nearer 3,200 and that is about the level where the coil (ignition module) goes pop. they should have a zenor diode fitted to ween off the excess ohms ideally.

as for the starter, I agree, that looks like the right one eric BUT, I wish that a FASTER starter could be found!

a few years back there was this amazing American site where someone had everything electrical listed in long pages of info. he's the kind of man that could have sorted this but I haven't found the site for quite a while....

thanks husabutt and taffey went through carb Friday and didn't see any issues there, clean and everything there including CD1 jet, may need to upgrade jetting but slide looks good and smooth, so fuel and spark ok so that leaves compression, performed leakdown test, both inlet valves leaking, removed intake boot and sprayed some carb cleaner around inlet valves and it sprayed back in my face, removed valve cover and noticed aluminum cam gear looks worn out even though hasn't even run an hour. removed cyl head and inlet valves, almost cut my fingers on edge of valve faces because they are so tulipped. Cyl wall showing scratches front and rear though can't feel them with finger nail so removed cyl and piston starting to gall front and rear, disassembled starter and found it was full of oil, bearing fried and so is armature were brushes ride. Ok so need steel cam gear, all four valves, DVSK, new piston and rings, hone cyl, , remove semi-auto decomp cable and install choke cable conversion, repl. starter and install one of Taffy's carb spruce up kits. Sound like a plan ? Any suggestions would be welcome.

When most recently reassembling my 97 600 I used a 2007 KTM cam 59036010000, 04-08 Husa cam gear turned over to align the cam chaim as the KTM cam is 2mm longer than the Husa, 04-08 Husa autodecompression device with the decomp spring pretensioned 1/2 to 1 full turn so that it snaps back in its resting position nicely, KTM water pump impellar with a few mm sanded off as the diameter is slightly larger. How about some new cam follower bearings, cam bearings, and Iwis timing chain.
