Hi guys!
Here's a video of my poor skills when kick-starting the beast. I've only tried this a few times and have never found that sweet spot to kick it.

This was actually my best attempt at finding a good technique and following a method. My previous attempt was more like "just kick the hell out of it and it will eventually start".

I noticed it is clearly easier to start as soon as it gets a bit warmer. Got to find the best way to do this when it really is cold. Advice is appreciated as well!

my foot hurts watching that :D

nice backfire though

i run the idle speed higher than you abt 1800 - 2000 rpm makes starting easier (spec is 1800)

I push the lever till it wont move, pull the decomp lever and move my foot 1" further then, let it go back up to the top and kick, think "fast" kick not hard kick.

with the 105mm bore i don't go near the bike without riding boots, if you are timid it kicks back like a donkey :D

1. open fuel
2. pull choke out
3 turn throttle fully and shortly and let slip back 3x
4. find TDC
5. using manual deco turn 1 inch further
6. let the kickstart jump back
7. kick from very top (swing)

that is what I do and it works
even when it is freezing fires on 2-4 kick.

once it is hot: just kick u do not have to find TDC first or kick from the very top position

OK old git

several things wrong there good buddy!

idle speed too low as said
always kick with MX or rigger boots because you WILL kick harder!
never lean against the wall - you just turned it into a balancing act!
stand on your right leg on something above ground level but solid
consider starting the bike on a Jack-in-the-box stand for example if you have one
kick hard and fast with depth, only fire your leg - not your body

get it running and then set the fuel screw for best restart, consider checking the jetting,

do the tappets again and when done you should be able to hear 'morse code' up to 3 yards but no further.

regards

Thanks for the tips Taffy!

I always ride with boots, so in case I need to kick it I will always have them on. Next time I'll try it with boots.

I've done a small adjustment on the idle screw yesterday. I sure noticed the difference but I'm yet to try kicking it again.
