Why 120/70 not 120/60 if rear is a 160/60?

Please explain. Thanks.

Re: Why 120/70 not 120/60 if rear is a 160/60?

It has to do with ride height and balance IMO
the rear 160/60 has the smallest rim mounted diameter of the sport radials at just around 25"
the 120/60 frt has a mounted dia of just under 23" and the 120/70 has a dia of an inch bigger at just under 24" both mounted on the recommended 3.5 " rim.
120/60 is almost a 1/2 " narrower as well, so quite a bit smaller tire than the 120/70
So the wheel heights and widths are a better match at 160/60 and 120/70
Hope this helps

Re: Why 120/70 not 120/60 if rear is a 160/60?

The 120/60 is too flat for supermoto:
1. It is not absorbing much in the dirt.
2. the sidewall is too low, and the side carcass is too narrow. This resulting less grip in deep lean angles then the broader side carcass at the same lean angle of the 120/70.
3. Supermoto has most of its weight on the rear wheel, hence can not employ a 120/60 as well as a sport bike to get the required grip level.
