To shorten spring cut it a little long about were you think you want it then put piece of sheet metal between next to last coil heat it red hot at the spot you want to bend to make the hook. Do it fast and just a small spot. Sheet metal is to keep some heat off rest of spring if you don't you will ruin the spring. Try it on an old junk spring first for practice. NEVER DO IT ON ANYTHING IMPORTANT (like engine, shocks, forks)

I Ride:
you need the two springs otherwise people make the one big spring work very hard. this spring then smashes everything up if it is over strong.

exhaust, the frame, the pivot: it all get chewed up.

it's harder to get it right for enduro riders.

Ok boys and girls,

The local dealer can get the springs... but they need a $500 order to save the shipping, otherwise I would have to pay $30 shipping for my $20 worth of parts... so,

Does anyone else know of an alternate spring (maybe KTM or NAPA or some such thing) that would work as a side-stand spring replacement? I looked on Mcmaster.com ... but I don't know what the length (or spring constant) or the stock spring combo is.

Additionally, the upper chain roller (part 53) doesn't spin because I am missing the two washers (part 54) that allow the bearing to spin. It says LOCK WASHER 8MM... so just buy two standard 8mm washers?

Don't know if have one in Canana but Orchard supply has a lot of spring. Might be worth a look.

Try fastenal or hdsupply (formerly brafasco) for springs. Alternately a farm supply place.

Here's the spring I bought. $5 at home depot. Supposed to be for a screen door I think.

Then I cut it, tried it, stretched it, cut it again, and here's the result (oh-no, where's the bottom half!?):

Also, somehow I did this during the process. I guess the spring is strong! Good old Canadian Tire Mastercrap.

Side stand trouble.

Hi guys, does anybody no if the side stands are all the same size, as I have just brought one for a 650 04 and it seems to long, and the bottom of the stand dosent sit flush with the floor.
When the stand is down the bike is that straight it is on the edge of falling.
All springs are there and fitted.

I have lost the original bolt that holds the stand on so I have just used a bolt I had lying around,
Would this have something to do with it?

I think I have just worked it out what a dummy!!
I take it I've got the long enduro side stand and not the shorter supermoto stand which I need, any how i now have a brand new LONG side stand for sale or swap for shorter
Thanks from bushmechanic

I cut my enduro stand down when converting it to supermoto and welded the foot back on.
All three of the Husabergs I have owned had the foot of the stand at a slightly forward angle that would rest first on the ground. I believe it is by design as when the spring loaded stand starts to rise it scrapes the edge first to slow the release. Understand? If the foot was completely flush it would fling off the ground easier which could be a problem as the bike has had issues with falling. My stand now is about 14 1/2 inches from the weld on the base to the tip of the foot with the angle welded close to the way it was originally
Thanks from Taffys mistake
