Sooo, it ran well before. You have spark, sounds like you have fuel (wet plug).I don't think that your timing could go "off". Wouldn't that involve jumping a timing chain or the stator coming loose? What about a broken valve spring? That could be the cause of it just dying.

Re: 1999 fc 501 died at idle won't start again!!!!! HELP

good to hear, either screw can back out if it was either waaaaaay to lose that it wasn't doing anything to affect idle anyway and not holding tension on the spring, or if its missing the spring altogether it'll fall right out I wouldn't think it to loosen out if there was tension on it from the spring.....

I don't think there's a spring period !! There's no tension on it Ault all and it doesn't affect my idol but none the less its running im noticing a bog going down to a idle and trying to rev it back up every once n a while when it comes down to an idle and I go to rev it it just puttered and died but fires right back up and will run fine can I put another carb on it ? Im mainly riding high dessert trails ranging from 3000 ft on up depending on were I choose to ride in great central OR

Re: 1999 fc 501 died at idle won't start again!!!!! HELP

yea i think there is a spring on both of the screws if i remember right, i sold mine a year ago or so.....you can put another carb on it if you want to, i personnally wasnt a real fan of the dellorto and have a mikuni tm40 on mine, it requires a 2 cable (push-pull throttle handle) or on mine a just used one cable and added a extra spring to help it return...other people have also used keihin 41 carbs, both are pumper carbs and both are great upgrades to the dellorto, the keihin although is the most common upgrade it isnt cheap though....the mikuni will do everything you want it too and you will wonder why they didnt put a pump carb on those bikes in the first place, probably no real power gains alothough you will feel like there is one due to the increase in throttle response.....

set up right the dell orto has no flat spots or coughs. BUT it isn't a smooth as the Keihin.

you need to make sure the dell orto has fresh brass in it and then it is fine.

ignition timing being wrong can exacerbate any problems. even the tappets.

Im not sure on the lighting thing....I though the fc's didn't have a lighting circuit in the stator but I really don't know, does your stator have two yellows? if it does and has switches maybe someone has added something I really don't know in the fc or fx models though, and yea like taff said the dellorto shouldn't really have any bog if its set up right and everything else also in check too, its an old bike sometimes you can have more than one problem haha
