two holes over rear spindle slide-what are they?

just looking at the rear wheel spindle travel and spotted two machined holes just above the adjustment cutaway.

never seen it written but are these the maximum and minimum that the factory want the spindles to go backwards or forwards?

or were they for machining?

regards

they're in the slot machined out for the spindle to go through. they're on the upper outter edge and they are shallow incomplete drill/ machining holes.

thanks anyway.

I didn't think so...

I am curious to know what they are/were for though - I'll look at mine when I get home tonight.

Taffy, I use those as an aid for spindle(axle) alignment. As I'm sure you know the chain tensioners may be rotated 180 degrees depending on your chain length. Short chain flat side forward, long chain tapered side forward. The slots in the chain tensioner align with the corresponding machined holes (sort of). Does this make any sense to you?
