21/18 vs supermoto setup

Hiya,

Those of you with supermoto and 21/18 wheelsets, how do you set up the suspension so it steers decently with each?

As far as I know, then if the forks and rear sag are set up for the SM tires, the offroad tires will cause the bike to feel heavier steering, and vice versa.

Is it reasonably possible to set the rear sag low for SM and the forks high, and then keep the rear low and lower the forks for the 21/18 wheels to get steering agility back? - To reach a compromise without having to adjust the rear sag each time.

And - Does the rear wheel rearwards/forwards adjustment change sag and therefore steering character? So that it's possible to have different chains for SM and offroad and affect the steering that way?

Its a bit of a compromise no matter how you look at it. Do you intend on using it for racing or just general riding. For racing I cant really say what setting or setup would be ideal, but if just for street riding, I found the offroad setup more than adequate. I have a 2003 FE501 which I sometimes put 'tard wheels on and it works perfectly fine for me.

I have quite the opposite setup. My bike is a 2005 FS450E with original motard wheels'n'suspension, but I mainly use it for trail and dirt riding with the susp set to very mushy and enduro wheels. It's a good riding height for a small guy like me but it is not smooth enough. Gotta do something about it. No problems with heavy steering on neither wheel setup (17"&17, 21"&18 )

I Ride:
DIRT 21"/18"

you want 22mm TCs up to 2004.
20mm TCs from 2004-2008
you want 22-24mm TCs 2009-2012 on the big engines.

regards

Taffy
