Offset

I ended up with a set of adjustable triple clamps and installed them in the 22 mm setting. I didn't really have an issue with the stock clamps set at 19mm, but figured it was worth a try. Anyone here like or dislike 22?

Re: Offset

which bike ?

I know 2 guys who prefered 18mm (europe, rocks and stuff) and 19mm (oz) for the new chassis over the 22s for improved stabilty

in the old chassis I think 16 - 14s would suit a lot of applications though not may people run less than 18

stock on my 08 is 21mm offset +/- 1mm with the stem flip, so 20/ 22

Re: Offset

If or when I get a new Berg, one of the first things that I will do is to replace the 22mm clamps with 18mm clamps for a more 'planted', less twitchy front end.

Re: Offset

This Safari just finished I was riding a 2010 570 with the 22mm clamps................after 3 days I changed it over to a set of 19mm '09 ones we had, made a big difference to stability at speed and my confidence, the 22mm ones scared the crap out of me a few times with massive tank slappers @ around 140kph and this is with the Scotts damper set real hard to slow things down

Once I had the 19mm ones on it was more comfortable but still not as stable as the 650 which I no issues with at 170+kph for long sections.

That said once in the tighter parts of a stage the 19mm felt like they did push the front end more, but I could live with that rather than being thrown off the thing at speed.

Now I'm gunna test a set of 18mm ones off a 650 and see how that feels, also will be looking at what could be done to make the swingarm longer...............many of the hard core Dakar enduro based rally bikes do this, again to get more stability

Re: Offset

Hi Gazza

very curious if the longer swingarm reduces the push you noticed from less offset. maybe the stability in part comes from changing the weight bias to the front and being able to run more trail. the 650 sure has a LOT more front weight bias but it isn't any longer than the 09s I think.

I saw your scotts damper, how is it different ride wise to the ohlins 2.0 ?

So you used 18mm offset triples on the 650 ?

the '07 & '08 650's here in Australia came with 18-20mm adjustables as standard, and yes we set them up at 18mm for stablity at speed.

I just bought a set of 14mm offset clamps from the states (off a 03 KTM), very keen to chuck them on and see if they are any good. Currently had the std 09 clamps on and even with my suspension valved and sprung for m weight don't have 100% confidence in the front end.
Clamps were $50 plus postage so worth a try
