i've got a 2008 fe550e but it's now set up for supermoto. how do i change my wheel size on the odometer from 2205 (21inch) to 17 inch. i've read through the 2008's owner's manual but it does not mention how to change wheel circumference from 21 inch to 17 inch???

thanks, frank

Hi Frank,

Legally you can't, you either buy a speedo for 17" or 21" wheels they do this to cover them selves.
But here you are, you need to disconnect your main battery but have the small button battery in the speedo housing, then locate the three pin triangular plug from the speedo, disconnect the black wire only, now when you go through the menu for set up and you get to the WS you will notice now it is flashing you can now alter the WS via the three button touch pad.
Once you are satisfied with the numbers reconnect the black wire and the main battery, it's as simple as that.
Mine is set to 1790.

Regards

Sparks.

RE: Re: setting the wheel size/circumference on the odometer

Thanks Sparks!! Appreciate it. I combined your explanation with the one below and followed them both. the one below was a little easier since i could just unplug the three wire harness in one quick step, and then toggle through the menu until i got to a flashing WS, where i changed it. I took your advice and went with a 1790.

Unplug the 3 wire plug with red & black & brown wires coming from the speedo.

With the display showing engine hours, press and hold the "mode" button untill you switch to different menu.

Cycle through the options with the button till "WS" flashes. change the wheelsize with the + and - buttons to the circumference of your 17" front wheel (I set it at 1882) then press "mode" again, then hold the "mode" button till it returns to normal display.

Glad it worked out OK Frank, I think I mentioned it before but this might be a good thing to go in the Doc, Taffy....

Ive got 17 inch rims with the front tire being 120/70 ZR70 and the rear tire being 160/60 ZR17

When I turn on the speedo it says WS 1882

Is this not right?

It worked like a charm. Thanks
Just unplugging this little guy does the trick. Then you just follow the steps above
