OHV Call to ARMS!!

Just wanting to spread the good word...if anyone is in the area or can be without too much hassle, the MRA (Southern Oregon Motorcycle Riders Association or www.motorcycleridersassociation.org) is holding a SUPPORT-OHV Rally at ALBA Park in Downtown Medford, OR. The Rally will be on Sunday Jan 6th between 1 and 3pm with all local shops in support including some large names like motorcycle superstore, of course us , and others. Guest speakers will be there including Senator Atkinson (Rep). This is in retaliation to recent Mail Tribune Article discussing the BLM's Western Oregon Plan Revision (which will affect all of Oregon if it works). An uneducated on the facts, yet highly connected County Commissioner discussed in the article about how all OHV areas discussed in BLM's WOPR will be shut down...This cannot and will not happen considering the MRA owns many acres open to the public for OHV use. If you can please, at the very least spread the word, but try and show up with bikes in the back of your pick-up and show numbers. We need you...AT SOME POINT WE HAVE TO STOP THIS ASSAULT ON OUR RIDING AREAS...PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD, print out a copy of the flyer (go to www.motorcycleridersassociation.org) and pass out at shops, etc. Heck, even sign onto the MRA Web Forum and let us know if you can make it...much thanks, Kurt Beckman - MRA Secretary and 1/2 owner of Bike Barn Motorcycles, LLC

RE: OHV Call to ARMS!!

Hear, hear Kurt ! Even if you can't make this rally, please , please join a local OHV group in your area. Make no mistake boys our rights are under ASSAULT ! There are BLM plans and Forest service plan revisions going on all over the west 1000's of miles of trails we have used for years. Get involved now or you will soon find yourself a criminal, because you will have to ride in defiance of the "new laws" if you want to go to your favorite areas. We are on the verge of loosing a huge portion of Moab right now.

There is on the books a law passed in 1844 by the federal government that basically states that any road used by the public on public land will remain for perpetuity(sp?)

So now it appears that the whole trail documentation thing where the ohv'ers were working with NFS to catalogue all of our trails was just a bunch of bs. The NFS is rife with eco freaks, that ignore the science of the evironmental impact studies and plant false evidence to lock us out of our land. Through these tactics, in California alone we have lost 50% of our riding area's since the mid 80's.

I joined the Blue Ribbon Coalition several years ago because they are actively going after the BLM, NFS, and state land management agencies in court to keep the area's open. And just joining is not enough, you have to contribute money to whatever group you join for their legal efforts. That's how the enviro's have been able to keep closing land off to the majority of people, b/c they can generate money from all of their arm chair members.

Only about 10% of off roaders belong to a multi use advocacy group. Check out the BRC at sharetrails.org and see the kind of progress they have made. Not just for dirt bikers, but, for all who recreate on public land.

I can't emphasize this enough, write letters to your reps and the local papers it makes a difference. Make your letters thoughtful and intellligent, include the facts. Stay away from attacks and angry rehtoric.

Thanks for posting, if I lived a wee bit closer I'd join you.

Excellent point Dale, it is not just off-roaders at risk. It is every form of outdoor recreation. These Eco freaks don't even want you walking on piblic lands unless you have "approved" low impact soles on your shoes.

Here's a good page to check out that pretty much encompasses the ultimate goal. Unfortunately one of the links, wildlands project exposed, doesn't work anymore, that page had a great map of how "they" wanted to set things up. Do a google search for "Wild lands project" and see what you come up with.

Here's the basic scheme, all humans will live in cities, those currently living in remote area's will basically be booted off of their land, or have so many restrictions placed on them as to make it impossible to exist there. There will be a "buffer" area where humans will be allowed to go, and then another area, don't recall what they called it, where no humans would go. This area, and others, would stretch from coast to coast, and from the Aritic circle to the gulf of mexico. And, they are succeeding, bit by bit, mainly because of the lack of opposition by the populace due to misinformation given to the mass populace. Remember, these are the same people who want to breach all the dams, and that think that second hand smoke is the biggest threat to humanity. If you don't believe those statements are true, just let me know and I'll do the homework for you and provide you with credible documentation to back up my words.

I have been involved in varying degree's in the land use fight for the last 20+ years, and have witnessed first hand the inuendo's, slight of hand, misrepresentations, denial of sound scientific studies, and out right lies put forth by groups such as the Sierra Club, Center for Biological diversity, Earth First, Animal liberation front, PETA, et al and their willing accomplices in the Main Stream Media. I couldn't make this stuff up!

While you guys in Oregon have had your dealings with the BLM, and NFS, we had ten years down here developing the WEMO. Western Mojave Management, forgot what the O was for. Well, the short story is this, it was a group made up of all the "stake holders" anti access, shared access, blm etc. This study cost 10's of millions of dollars and 10 years to complete, when all was said and done, the ink wasn't even dry and the Center for Biological diversity had filed and injunction in the 9th circus court of appeals, and was granted said injunction, that basically said all of that money and time wasn't correct and we have to stop all activities on the land.

This came on the heels of the East Mojave National Scenic area that locked up 3.8 million acres of desert into wilderness. Old structures, houses, windmills etc were then dismantled and hauled off to make it conform to the 1964 wilderness act definition. Some of you might recall the infamous Barstow to Vegas race. Well that race course went through some of the EMNSA, but, said the enviro's and the government, we'll leave you a corridor for your race to go through if you'll just sign on for the rest of it. Guess what, we never got to use that corridor because the same enviro's that said we could have it later filed an injuncition every year to keep us from having the race, and the courts up held it and required, no shit, a new EIS study each year which was impossible to complete for a few reasons, not to mention the cost.

Fast forward to a couple of years back, we permanently gave up that race corridor as part of the WEMO plan so that we could get the checkers "River Run" back, a 235 mile race from Lucerne Valley to Parker Arizona. Well, it's been three years and we still can't get the permits because, oh wait, we found another critter or bush that we hadn't seen before that makes the area one of "critical environmental concern". I know the Checkers keep working on it and I do hope that we can get that event back again.

So, you see there is no barganing with these people, I have seen it over and over again for the last 25 years. They want you to sit down at the table with them and work out a compromise, but then they just turn right around and want more land locked up. The mountain bikers learned this the hard way back in the late 80's.

Like the old saying says, "Give a mouse a cookie, and he's going to want a glass of milk".

The 'eco freaks', lets say greenies, are definately way over the top, their management plans do not work properly, and the closure of public land is not on anyway, that's what our taxes pay for - the management of our public areas, if it is specifically exclusive of a certain use, then they must understand what portion of the population uses the parks and how they use it.

Keep the trails open.

good fight dale! thank you.

I'm an environmental engineer from the 70s. I deal with facts and reason, and have grown sick of the lies of the modern "environmentalists".

Fight the power.
