Good evening husaberg.org members,

I have recently purchased my first Berg, a Berg FE550 2004 model. Unknown mileage overall condition is OK. My twin brother has also recently bought his first, a Berg FE450 2007 model last month which is in good condition with low miles (1500) and has had very little hard use judging by frame and plastics.

The 550 is definitely rougher around the edges, the engine oil is completely black in the viewing window, both bikes are getting oil and filter changes this weekend and potentially valve clearances done before we go and take them down the green lanes.

The 450 runs and rides perfectly, all lights work, and has been tested by ourselves for 5 hours with no issues, it does however make a whining sound when running which I assume is the drive sprockets for the balance shaft and cam.

The 550 was bought last sunday and other than a test ride for about 300ft has not been test rode properly, lights work, it even has a key! It needs a new chain and 2 new enduro specific tyres

I have attached images of both bikes, hopefully they load up ok.

Update:

Both bikes have had oil and filters and valve clearances done. Both run great. 550 got a new chain, still waiting on tyres coming.

welcome to UHE lads!!!

that whining noise will be the freewheel gear inside the engine. if they aren't 'undercut enough' the interference of the meshing makes them whine.

to find out is simple enough. just undo the left cover and remove the clutch and then the freewheel gear is the one behind but resting on top of the clutch. remove the whoile assembly (4-parts) then the starter clutch (looks like a spinning top) put it together and kickstart it. the noise should be gone.

you'll likely get through the the
clutch locking tab, left cover gasket, w/p gasket and w/p seal in this process. as owners of two Husabergs of the same era, I would always have those three items 'just sat there incase'.

cheers

Taffy
