17MM LC4 Front Wheel Conversion (Hopefully this light save you a head ache)

Just thought I'd write this journey for anyone with a 17mm axle LC4 Front wheel doing a conversion to 20mm and hopefully this will prevent a few trial and error bits along the way.

To convert the 17mm front wheel it is intensive but this is what I've learnt...

The speedo side bearing is (from memory) 17x40x12

The bearing with a 20mm ID is extremely hard to find and if you can it is around 50-60 GBP.

To fix this, I had the ID of the wheel bored to 42mm, making the wheel have an ID to take a standard fit bearing. (This cost around 30)

Changed both bearings to 20mm ID's and had a new pinch spacer made at 26 OD, 20MM ID and 65mm length (cost around 15)

There is a lip toward the disc side inside the hub, this will either need to be ground down to around 28mm (I used a dremel with grinding bit).

NOTE: The ID of this 'lip' is around 24mm, I used a 3mm wall thickness as the original. However you may be able to get away with 24mm, but im not sure of the out come and the wall thickness is smaller than OEM.

So with the internal of the hub done, if you use the original seal on the disc side, you may be able to use a standard size spacer (which I did not have) so I had to make my own!

On the speedo side, you can either use a speedo delete and original rubber seal (thanks Steve Coombes for the link) or run the KTM 20mm speedo.

On the disc side, you will need the 320mm calliper adaptor.

I've attached some pictures below, it can get a bit tricky in places but hopefully this might give you an idea of what's needed to use the 17mm front wheel...

Personally I would suggest just buying the 20mm front wheel, unless you have the time and patience OR if you can't find any for sale
