New Possible FE390 owner
Hello to everyone from Southwestern PA! I am the possible new owner of a 2011 FE390. Been around moto's all my life, did the motocross thing for a while when my body was young and able to handle, been on the street since I was 16 (35 now), had a few offroad ktm 2 strokes 200's and 300's, and recently figured out that with all the time constraints of being an "adult" a motorcycle wont see the use it deserves unless its plated for me. So that brought me into some dual sport bikes like the DRZ400s and the oh so mighty TW200, haha!
I am also very much so into mountain biking, both cross country and I am an avid downhill rider/racer.
I have really been enjoying the drz's versatility, but something in me just wanted a bit more offroad....a bit less weight, and something a bit more snappy. So i found a guy local that has a 2011 FE390 for sale. I have heard some great things about them, and figured i would give it a look since the gentleman has it setup for road use also. I am hoping it proves to be just as reliable and worry free as my drz has been to me. I has had the fuel pump changed...i didnt fail, the guy changed it "just because" and still has the stock pump to go with it if there are any issues down the road. Bike has 120 hours on it and 2500ish miles.
Any thoughts or words of wisdom as to things i should check out when i go to look at it besides the ordinary stuff? This will be my first Berg, to its a totally new animal for me.
My other option is my buddy has Beta 450RR for sale that is dual sported also, he wants a few more $$ for it, but it is newer, and has less hours, along with a few more goodies like skid plate, rekluse clutch and some other stuff.
Whats your guys thoughts on the FE390? I kinda think will like it because I have owned a lot of bigger bikes, but I am the type of rider that seems to be ride better on on a smaller bike, i always prefered my ktm 200 over the 300,and when we go out trail riding and I show up with the mighty TW200, it amazes people that keep up in the mix.....i always start off in the back not to hold anyone up, and then halfway thought, my buddys sadly say.....just go in front of me for this section, lol.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or words of wisdom. I hope to contribute here as much as possible once i get my bearings for this bike.
