I Ride:
Guess I better introduce myself...

Hello fellow Berg-ers, I'm somelad.

I've had my 2009 FE570 for around a year and have been enjoying the step up in performance and handling from my old 2005 Husky TE450.

I bought it with a few mods done by the previous owner, the main one I was interested in was the subframe/secondary fuel tank. The old Husky had pretty good range but my mates were having to carry 3 litres of fuel on their backs to last a days ride, one on a Husky 510 and the other on a 450 BMW. I didn't want to figures with the extra tank I'd be able to avoid the need to carry fuel.

Of course, when you buy a 2nd hand bike that has had some mods done you just know you're going to find the odd issue. The sub tank developed an epic leak after first ride and I took the subframe off more times than I care to remember in the first month of ownership trying different methods of sealing the secondary fuel tap. In the end Qbond was the solution that worked. I also removed the heated hand grips that were bodged up to work off the indicator switch and did some general maintenance before my next ride (chain, sprockets, tyres, did oil & filter before the first ride too).

Since then I had the hot starting issue on a hot day and of course the first time it wouldn't start was at the bottom of a steep hill with very little room to push start it. That was a fun day... after that it was a matter of don't stall it and park at the top of a hill when we stopped for breaks. The issue was the torque limiter so I had the torque limiter replaced and while the case was off had the freewheel gear replaced as well because it was showing some signs of wear.

Aside from that the big berg has been a pleasure to ride, it doesn't feel like a big bore bike in the tight single trail until you have to pick it up with a full load of fuel but it definitely has the big bore power on the open trails.

I also ride on the road (ZX14) and track (Daytona 675), the ZX14 is an ok tourer and that's what I mainly use it for but I do get out for the occasional spirited ride with guys & girls on their super/hyper sport bikes. I ride the Daytona at Phillip Island, Eastern Creek and Wakefield Park - for those playing along in the UK/US these tracks are all east coast Australia.
