I Ride:
Newbie

Hi all,

I'm a new Husaberg owner (2004 FE550) and having just spent the weekend covering 200 miles of South Wales' finest lanes I thought I'd come on here and introduce myself and tell you what I've done to the bike, problems I've had and ask what else I should do!

I bought the bike with both supermoto and enduro wheels (not used the supermoto wheels yet - but hopefully give them a go this weekend), got home from collecting it at 11pm on the Friday night, and was up and in the garage for 7am the following morning for a wheel change, ready to green laning with some mates at 8. Having had loads of people say "why don't you just buy a KTM" I was extremely chuffed that it started on the 2nd kick in front of the KTM owning pals that I was riding with!

The ride was fairly tame (not alot to excite you in South Leicestershire), but the bike held up well (although became progressively more difficult to start). The only problems were the electric start wasn't a goer, and I clearly didn't have the knack for kickstarting!

The following week I was frantically buying various bits in order to prepare the bike for the weekend in Wales. I was determined not to be stuck in the deepest darkest valleys because I couldn't start the bike!
So after new tyres, battery, air filter, spark plug, oil (5w50) and stainless filter (and having set the valve clearances), I now have a bike I can kickstart in flip-flops, and 9 times out of 10 on the button (starter motor sometimes doesn't engage). Hurrah!

The 2 days riding in Wales last weekend were excellent - the bike is so forgiving (compared to my Husky WR250) and I felt the power wasn't intimidating at all (probably due to the long gearing). A friend who has a EXC450 had a go and commented on how easily it revs and how light it feels in comparison to his bike! I'm now feeling extremely pleased with my purchase and looking forward to the next outing (possibly a day in North Wales this weekend, if I can convince the good lady....)

Anyway, I've rambled on enough, but as hopefully you can tell I'm very much a proud Husaberg owner and look forward to many rides on my new steed in the coming months.

Thanks for listening, and if you've got any tips/hints/recommended upgrades I'd love to hear them.

Cheers,

Martin
