New 2008 550 FE Weep Hole leaking oil?

Finally got my new 550 together and went for my first spin, stopped to look things over after about 5 km's. Low and behold the weep hole was leaking oil, not a great amount but enough to be noticeable. I wiped the oil off of the cases and continued on my ride checking the leak every so often. Returned home after about 50 Km, the leak appeared to have slowed some but was still there? I suppose I'm going to have to change the
o-ring to stop this leak, any suggestions or pointers would be appreciated.

I just went through it. Be careful when you pull off the side cover as not to dislodge the kick starter shaft. If you do it won't be apparent until you go to put it back on! See my thread titled "what did I do wrong" for pointers... The Doc is very helpful also.

I think I would give it another ride or two before diving in. I have seen them leak alittle at first before. It could be it had alittle excessive assembly lube mellting out.

A little oil weeping out is normal.

Maybe just ride and keep an eye on it and the oil level for now.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll keep an eye on it for a little while before jumping in. So far thats been the only thing amiss other than the engine being over filled with oil direct from the factory. Will take her out for another blast today and keep an eye on the oil level.

I have heard in the past that they are more prone to leaking with a high oil level.

don't worry about it, all our '07s & '08s weep a little, just enough to smear & collect dust, never amounts to anything and thats after ,000s of km

I just got my 08 FS650 back from warranty work which was the same issue. If it's not under warranty, put up with the leak as it may get better in time. If you have to pay to get it fixed & it's the waterpump shaft they have to split the cases to replace it so big dollars.

They all nearly have this problem, it' mainly the s#@t oil seal design to the bearing where the fault lies.
If you want a 100% fix get the kit from John at Orangeberg. Then you can run the correct amount of oil with no leaks. I can't see why the factory doesn't adopted this cure.

Regards

Sparks.

do you have a bash plate installed on this bike. I am trying the theory that when they are being run in they run hot and with a bash plate even run hotter so will not install one untill after 2,000km.....the heat goes to making the oil leak of course if the shaft is the problem this theory would not help
