Hi, I fill oil till its 6-8mm short of the top of sight glass, run bike for 30 secs, then let it settle for a while and check.
If ok, i then doublecheck the next day when cold.

verry bottom of the sight glass, just showing 1 - 2 mm is whats recommended.

Guys, this is 2009 & newer.
Ned, Taffy will give you a bollocking now

Sight glass is a long thin tube affair on 09s.
Showing 3/4 full is fine, dont let it drop below half, all when cold (accoring to manual).

I fill mine up over the centreline of the crankshaft. Mind you on an '09 that may take a lot of oil and cause a few other problems!
