600's -What Year Engines Are The Same????

I've had my 2000 FC 600 engine semi torn-down for a while now.
Looks like worn big-end bearings on the con-rod, plus a new camchain (and probably a few other bits 'n' bobs).
I've been too busy riding the CR500 to fix the 'Berg, but now i've sold the Honda and need to fix it.
What year engines for the 600 are the same (or very similar) to my 2000 model?
I'm looking for a replacement engine in good running order to transplant into mine whilst I fix the original one.
Having a second engine will be useful for spares in the future too.
Anyone know of anyone who's got a good 600 motor for sale in the UK???
Cheers,
Ross

DCR has a load of gear mate thats used and breaking etc.

1997 - 2000 motors are all very similar.

Download the 2000 parts manual as it will tell you how far back a particular part is supposed to fit.

Some parts are the same all the way back to 88-89.

There's a couple of earlier 600's - cica '94 - on ebay just now.
I've asked the sellers if they are willing to sell the engine only.
Should the earlier engine fit the 2000 frame?
One of the earlier bikes engine number is : 1120062 - what year is this?
Cheers guys,
Ross

I would not recommend going back prior to 1997. You would be well advised to rebuild the motor you have. The 2000 is the highest state of development for the original style motor.

Yeah,
Looks like I'm gonna have to bit the bullet and get her done ASAP!
Guys on ebay aren't playing ball.
I was looking for a quick stop-gap to get me rolling again whilst my original engine was re-furbed, but this looks like a non-starter.
Cheers!

hi, as i can recognise from the picture of your avatar surely your motor is not a 2000, but likely a 1999 or earlier until 1997.

I have to disagree. What would indicate that its not a 2000?

I Ride:
waterpump cover- clutch cover - shift lever,
unless all these 3 items were changed in this motor with earlier items
