Bike Died No Kick Start Only Bump Start[Broken Valve Spring]

First off bike specs: '04 FS650e USA edition

Okay well I have been searching but before I started digging in where everyone else was suggested there was one thing the others didn't have that I had, the bike was running fine then died.

I JUST bought the bike, test rides were all fine, bike started first kick everytime. Got home unloaded kick started up just fine. Road to gas station, filled up with 91 octane (highest we have here) and started up first kick.

Riding around town, then as I ride up to a red light the bike just dies, no sputtering just dies. Won't kick start. Try for a bit then push it to a parking lot with some hills. Keep trying to kick start won't work so I start running with it and I am able to bump start it but if I get close to idle RPM it dies. So I bump start again and the bike runs has power but I just can't let off the throttle.

Would this condition lead to anything specific, or would I best be doing as the others have done, valve check, change oil, inspect spark plug?

Thanks for anymore tips or ideas.

welcome to UHE TCK!

several things to try:

start/run it with the fuel cap loose
check the carb breathers haven't melted on the exhaust
blow out the pilot jet and the rest of the carb. look for a blockage there though!
maybe it needs a new plug

regards

Sounds to me as though something was sucked into the Pilot as The Taff master stated. Welcome to the dark-side. where are you located...

Sorry for the lack of location info... I'll update my profile in a second... I'm located in Oakland just across the bridge from SuperTireGuy (where I buy my tires for my other bikes)

Hell, I lived next to lake Merit for a while in the "90s. Scary place. Then to Walnut Creek, West pittsburg (Now BayPoint) Then back to the NW.

Ahh cool.. you're an ex local.. I actually live in San Leandro to be more specific... I also work in Oakley just east of Gun*Bay*Point...

So something getting sucked in there is that a common problem or would it underline more serious misuse of the bike.. as I said I bought this bike on Monday and it hasn't ran since that night...

A common occurance with the berg is when washing water gets in the air box. Often it is only a small ammount and you get a few coughs and sputters and then its all good. Sometimes if a person is not paying attention or just a dum ass enough water will get in to go into the float bowl and if the bike is not run for a while it will turn the fuel into a gooey mess and clog the jets. Lets not ask exactly how this dum ass knows but say that I learned back in 2001 that this could be a problem.

as others said take the carb of and give it a good cleaning. If you see a bit of crud at the bottom of the bowl and it is whiteish you found your problem. If it wasnt water it could have been oil from the breather but I kind of doubt that is the case. after cleaning the carb dump the tank and check the filters on the petcock just to be sure.

A great cure for the water in the airbox problem is the very trick airbox cover that Bendberg made. Well worth the money for this dum sh&t

Welcome to the dark side and you are in the right place to find out everything you need to know about Bergs and more.

Okay guys we've been working on it all day... carb has been cleaned there were no blockages, replaced the sparkplug... still will bump start but no kick... We are getting spark at the plug when kicking too.

However that bowl drain is dumping fuel out after a few kicks.... The spark plug new one and old shows that it's really rich...

So is it pretty much left at the valves now?
