sem ignition problem

hey gyus,
bike suddenly stopped running while idling-
immediatelly checked for spark but there was not any at all.
measured coils and readings are 1.6kΩ black-red and 250Ω black-green.
everything good so far.
BUT i measure 0Ω between black and the sem coils metal core (the body), this sure would cause no spark isn't it??

i am not sure of how coils are winded so i am asking if black should be equal to the metal core (the "earth" )

bike is fe 600 1995..

thanks in advance

Re: sem ignition problem

This is comon with older Husabergs. The ignition is on the way out (so I'm told) Let her cool down and try again. Mine has been doing his for a couple months now. There is good diagnosis info somewhere in this site... It will take ome lopking and everyone ois so tired of hearing about ignition problems with early Husabergs that they won't reply...On the Happy side... keep your berg fully charged up and keep the plug clean and you can keep riding. Once the ignition goes completely, call Moto exotica (or one of the other dealers...there is one in Michigan...) and spend the $450 to get her to run for another 6 months. Buying a 2005 or newer seems teh only true fix... Hope the pessamism doesn't get you down but that's how things seem to work around here...Or can some-one be of assistance to this fellow Bergophile.............

Re: sem ignition problem

From what I can tell, stators often fail gradually, with the engine having to be spun faster & faster to fire. When mine went, the engine would not go any slower than I'm guessing 3000 RPM. Can you pull start your bike?

There has been many threads about rewound stators. I'm not saying they are the answer, but one of the companies that do it was somewhere in Europe.

Look back thru the electrical forums for info. I expect that once rewound, the stator would be more reliable than a new one. I reckon the one I wound for myself was anyway.....

i thing it is gone my friend for good!
it costs only 170$ because at pre 99 bergs you had the option to buy separately the coils from the flywheel.

this one lasted 2 years of riding.

my bike has 9+ years of enduro racing with 2 major rebuilts and 3 stators, i am totally satisfied with it and with no complaints at all!

it run perfectly till yesterday , start with first kick and faster than any fe 650 happened to give it a try!!!

thanks for your replies guys

Re: sem ignition problem

wait a minute here!

i found my previous sem which failed because it had open circuit between black and red, i tested if black was grounded (0 ohms among black and coils core) and it was!!

so this means that it is supposed to be grounded and i should check somewhere else for the reason i have no spark. if only i had the time to do it

so i am asking if someone can double check for me if black is grounded!

i searched all the technical data on the site and only found resistance values of the coils and voltage, not this specific detail i am asking.

Yes, black is ground, and is connected to the stator laminations.

1995 FE600 ignition cutting out when hot. Fine when cold. Is this a symptom of a stator going bad or the power transistor ???

Hi

Paul, usually that is a symptom that the stator is going out.

Oyk good to ear from you, I've also checked and the black is grounded to the stator body. But the blue one is not ?? I thought it was also earth, but you know a lot more than me about it.

Do you still run the transformer mod ?
