I had it done to my 02 FC550 by Palo Verde Suspension. I liked it alot. As I recall it involved changing the front springs, revalve and machining a spacer for the rear PDS and revalve.

I too had the suspension lowered 1 in. by GPS suspension.
Springs Changed to straight rate for my weight and Rapad-V
revalve , plus bladder installed in rear shock . It does bottom on
big jumps, but otherwise works well .
I also shaved seat foam about an inch. I now have good
footing in most situations. I know many are negative about shaving
the seat height but I figure if I can't touch the ground I don't need
as much space between the seat and pegs either. For me a much
more confidence inspiring ride.

Re: How to lower a 2001 fx470e?????????

I lowered my 470 my self- didnt have to revalve or change the springs but i do alot of trail riding in slippery forstry conditions so i changed the forks to a two stack base valve and softened the rear compression stack by replacing the low speed with thinner shims i made up 18mm spacers for forks which was the same as the preload and then put the forks up in the yokes the rest- made a 9mm spacer for the shock this time i used a external spacer usually i use a internal one now i can touch the ground flat footed and i am only 5'8" i dont get it bottoming but i had fitted a 500lb straight rate spring be for wanting to lower the bike0this seams to have cured the back from kicking on square edge hits- i have gone from 44"s to 42"s in the front to give the bike even better traction -the front will bottom if i dont set the compression when used in hare scramble races but otherwise am very pleased
