Pushrod ball bearing 2000 fe400

I have a 2000 fe400 and I think it needs the pushrod ball bearing put in based on what I've read here because the slave doesn't reach the push rod. I have one do I just put it in the pushrod hole and then stuf the pushrod behind it and ram it in or what? I'm afraid if do that it's gonna drop somewhere inside and I'll have to open it up to get it out?

well it depends on the depth of your clutch pack doesn't it? if you had a perfectly good clutch and bought new steels and fristions and they were 0.2mm thicker that would be 15 x 0.2 which is 3.0mm

so whatever pushrod length you have would have to grow by 3mm wouldn't it?

What i would do is very gently pull the slave out and operate the clutch lever and I suggest that the piston will work right up to the edge of the slave? just check it?

you need a clutch pill...or even two. it all depends on that clutch pack thickness.

a valve clearance shim will do the job. lay the bike on its left and with the pill on some grease on the end of the shaft just drop it in and put the slave back on.

why not come back and tell us how you get on?

Re pushrod shim

Thanks for the answer I will have to order some shims and try it I appreciate your sharing that with me. The clutch is not new and was working until I took the master cylinder off to change the bars and then I took the slave off while I figured out how to bleed it. there may have been a small part lost somewhere during all that.

well now that is totally different.

you can only bleed the system UPWARDS. EVERYONE HAS TRIED DOWNWARDS AND YOU CAN'T DO IT.

Get a clear piece of battery overflow pipe and a syringe and bleed upwards. DON'T overtighten the bleed nipple because they snap the slave straight across the middle. They don't make them anymore so you can imagine ...be careful.

That will be your problem.

I bled it from the bottom but now I think that the slave is not able to push the pushrod in any because i tried to push in the rod in to test it and it won't go in any. idk if that's because I don't have enough force though. but maybe it is all stuck way down in there and there's something else holding it in I will try to open it from the clutch cover to see if something is broken or out of place. But because I can't get it to push in I am thinking that it won't push in even if the slave reaches it.
Oh how can I get a new slave gasket

It's an O ring! Either measure it and get it or buy it in a bike shop. The dimensions are often hidden in the codes of the part numbers.

as for being strong enough to push the rod, i agree.
