Another water pump seal thread (70 degree engine)

There are already several threads about this, kudos to the authors!

Just thought Id publish the photos from this session.
To change the water seal (ie if coolant is coming out the weep hole) its a fairly small job, it can be done without removing the engine cover, just the housing needs removing. The old seal can be removed by drilling a small hole in it to fit a wood screw to get hold of it, it does not sit tight.

Also worth noting is that the impeller and the disc behind it may be a bit difficult to get off, but theres no locking mechanism, just fiddle a bit (well quite a lot actually) and off they come.

There are two seals listed, however the 5,5mm one with dogs can be used on the water side too, just dont put the dogs on top of each other

This engine had 75 hours on it before it started leaking.

How its supposed to work is that the seal collar gets help from the liquid pressure pushing on the shaft sealing gradually more. wrong way and it cannot happen, so once its been honed out its goodbye, while correct way the pressure will still make it seal.

As fitted from the factory(wrong way):

Correct way:

Hi Jon, hope you're right cause I just replaced mine as you suggested. Strange thing I noticed was that was positioned The other way from factory. It's not leaking anymore so they do their job!
