2001- Frame thickness

Cheers guys!
I'm building a frame for a café racer project. As I would like to copy the rectangular central tube, I was curious about the sheet metal thickness in that box. Do any of you have the possibility to measure it for me?

Hi Dr C

The spine of the frame actually looks like square tube the size however is unusual,
70mm x 70mm x 2.1mm this equates to 2-3/4" x 2-3/4" x 0.082" this however doesn't appear to be readily available in 4130N square tube sizes seem to jump from 2-1/2" to 3"

This is assuming that the spine is 4130N and not a high carbon steel.

Dr C lives where the international standard of units are used so 70x70 is not strange at all. But he will probably make the square tube himself as he mentioned sheet.

If my memory serves me right, the central tube was welded on the Husaberg frames, stress relieved through an annealing process. At least that was what my contacts at the factory said.

My tube will start at 100x60 at the steering head and end with 60x60, some 450-500mm further back. Just to keep up the sport!

I have see the Husaberg frames being referred to as being "Normalized" this is common for 4130 to relieve internal stress post fabrication, I will be interested in what you do post fabrication of your frame.
Do you intend to normalize it (big oven 850-950 C followed by air cooling) and then hardened or just left in a normalized state ?

Mine Varies 1.98 to 2.10mm no paint

Have you got a screenshot of the cad model of the frame ?

I'm afraid normalizing the complete frame (see no point in normalizing parts) would distort the dimensions too much. I didn't do it with my Supermono frame, and it hasn't cracked anywhere so far...
