Thumbs down Weird stalling issue FE390

I've had some issues with my 390 quitting on me. So far I have replaced the fuel pump, replaced the injector, all new fuel filters, checked the valves, new plug and plug cap, and set the tps.

What it does is it will start right up and then while idling for a while (seems like once it warms up) it will just die and not want to restart. Here's a vid from today. I don't know why I kept messing with the throttle...was just a WTF??? moment I guess . Once it started back up I rode it a little over 20 miles and it was running great.

One other thing, sometimes it sounds a little like there is an occasional miss while it idles. Not 100% sure if it is a normal sound or not.

Ideas?

maybe it's just my computer, but I cannot hear the engine in your video... just some noise...

If I’m not wrong you shouldn’t be able start the bike by giving it throttle so My guess would be to play with TPS setting slightly/lower Your meter might be off. Don’t know just guessing

Tps checked with multiple meters, it's spot on. I have to check it through the whole range now, at times I've been able to get the bike to die by slightly cracking the throttle open a bit. Might have a bad spot.

If you are starting it with the throttle open a tad the ecm will think the throttle is not open and will think the throttle is at rest. Than when you drop the throttle it will show well below required voltage and the bike will shut down. With a failing TPS this is very common. Try holding your throttle at return fully and starting the machine then test ride to see if it stalls?

Checked the TPS through it's whole range and it seems to be fine.

I get the feeling that this is an electrical issue. It will run fine one minute and then suddenly die and will not start at all. Then for no reason will fire right up the 2, 3, 6, 8th time I hit the button. Think I need to start with the kill switch circuit.

Check earth point/s on the frame, check earth splices may be corroded, or some other bad connection in the harness. Had a similar issue with a ktm a while back, swapped ecu, ign coil, throttle body, realys and stator, and still had the same issue, which left only the wiring harness, after swapping the harness the issue was resolved. I had determined beforehand that the problem was not mechanical.

Thanks. I'm going to double check that there is no fuel issue tonight and if that is correct I'll start examining the wiring.

So yesterday the bike wouldn't fire at all. I was going to spray a little starting fluid in the TB to make sure that it wasn't a lack of fuel, but today it fired right up first hit of the button and idled like a champ.

Yesterday I suspected a wiring issue because my LED turn signals were acting weird, but it looks like that was a faulty relay.

These intermittent problems are a pain to troubleshoot. I'll post again if I can figure more out.

I had a problem with the loom near the headstem (where the loom bends) the orange wire broke and was only making intermittent contact and causing starting issues, maybe a similar problem could be the issue that a wire is loose and its earthing or breaking contact?
