I Ride:
fe550 backfiring

hey my 06 fe550 is back firing bad and is hard to start. it idles really low and backfires when i rev it. i tryed playing with the idle adjusting wheel to maker rev higher but it wont turn any further, any tips? also if anyone knows the easiest way to drain the carb on these things that would be greatly appreciated or do i gotta take the bike apart after every ride thanks a lot

I Ride:
First step is to check your valve lash. You have screw tappets so should be an easy fix.

I'd clean the pilot jet first.

FCR carburetors notorious for boogerd up and clogged pilot jets by old fuel, causing a lean condition like you described.

your kidding? inside that white plastic cup are three jets. the one nearest the engine is the pilot jet.
