I Ride:
2011 fe 450 no start

Having problems with a 70 degree 450

Engine cranks fine but fuel pump doesn't run and there is no spark

Kill switch ok
Fuel pump ok (runs when 12v supplied)
FI light flickers when cranking
New plug
Battery ok and good earth
Fuses ok

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Bike will start / run with tip over switch disconnected?

I did get it to run for a few seconds, but no idea why

if you do not have 12v on your fuse (F1- F3- F4 ) when you try to start it is a problem of the voltage regulator or the power relay

when you tried to start, take a mechanic's stethoscope or a piece of wood (one side on the tension regulator and stick your ear
along the piece of wood)

a contact must close it for the 12volt arrives at the fuse (F1- F3- F4 ) and this contact makes noise when it works

tried to hear it, if you do not hear the contact it's probably your voltage regulator

always do the following tests :

- verify that on the power relay if the 12v is present on the red-white cable
- check the relay
- made a continuity test on the yellow-red cable that goes from the relay to the fuse (F1- F3- F4 )
-also done a continuity test on the black-white cable that goes from the relay to the voltage regulator
-and tested during a start-up test if there is a continuity between the black-white cable (which is between the power relay and the voltage regulator) with a ground or the negative terminal of your battery

Try with air filter off pour a small amount of fuel into throttle body and see if can keep the bike running by doing that if you can then I’d look at fuel pump or fuel filters 4 of them. Good luck. By the way where’s the tip over switch located? Anyone?

The tip over switch is under the battery box. If you unplug it the bike will start as it works as a stop button.

I would take a closer look at the loom. If you remove the fueltank you can see if you have a short or a broken cable where the loom passes next to the fuelpump/left engine bracket or maybe somewhere behind the headlamp (the usual suspects).

Thanks for the replies

Seems to just have been a high resistance connection from the power relay, was only getting 5v at the fuel pump when cranking. Did some cleaning and now get 10V when cranking and she fires up no problem.
Thanks from jon andersson and Rainerio
