I have a question. Am I correct thinking that the 550 and 644 pistons sit 1mm lower than 628? 1mm below the deck? This gives lower compression ratio, right? So maybe 628 piston could be used in 644 with custom thicker gasket??

Andrzej,

we have received your samples, and have evaluated them. Unfortunately, we do not have the forging tools to manufacture these piston. At this time we will send these back to you, as there is unfortunately nothing we can do at this time.

best regards

Wasn't meant to be?

That's bad news for us guys. Yet again I'll have to put on the shelf plans for big bore. I'll try to revisit the idea in a couple of years. Or join somebody alses attempt. ⛔🏳️

I could be way off. Let me know.

If the 70* Bergs are close in specs, why not consider the CP 104 mm piston? Sure its weighty but you can get the weight down. Sorry if its been mentioned but my old brain forgets quickly. What is the weight of the OEM 650 piston?

I'm wondering – Have we talked to Travis at Thumper Racing about this?

336g for the 104mm CP including an 80g pin!

Are CP using a lesser grade of aluminium? Its hard to comprehend why they would build such a heavy piston, then add a heavy pin. Mind boggling. Then Thumperracing add weight to the cranks to balance the assy. More mind boggling......or am i missing something?

I've talked to him before when I was planning to have him do everything on my engine and he said he would talk to supplier or something like that, but for some reason I think it would be cp standard design and bit pricey. No latest tech for shure. Would be worth a call in any case. Just not what I was looking for. I wanted to build it for extra long life before another tear down.
Thanks from tourist

When I searched custom Pistons I had a few suppliers pop up. Will be calling around again.
