02 650 up and running but......

Hi all. So I've finally got my 02 FS650 up and running with much help from you guys and DCR and it's an absolute animal. Although riding yesterday it felt like it was bogging and there wasn't as much power delivery.

Checked under the air filter and there was a very small amount of water sitting in the rear boot. I spoke to one of DCR's guys and he said it could be to do with condensation on the oil where it isn't used enough to burn off and it's evaporating through the breather and obviously into the frame and carb.

Now a little while ago I had a major water leak in the oil (where it was basically like paint) so would I be right in thinking that I need to do a good few oil changes while the bike is warm in order to try and get rid of as much as the water as I can to eliminate this problem or is this a common issue with them when they're not used a lot?

Also I've noticed my coolant drop slightly as well and saw that when i removed my valve covers there was a bit of water in there too (not a lot but enough!). Does this basically mean my head gasket is in need of replacing?

Any help is much appreciated thank you!

Harry.

hi
i would fill the coolant out of the neck, startb it and look for bubbles. if the HG has gone then it will pressurise the coolant system and make it bubble through the exit neck of the radiator.

if that isn't happening i woulf think the Hg is OK and move on to the water jacket o ring between the left wengine cover and the cases. this can be undersize and needs to be 2.8mm minimum if i recall correctly.

regards

Taffy

Check out the thread about Dr_C Technical adventures, post #403 and onwards. It might offer you an alternative explanation.
