Help Axial play... What play ...

Hi guys i rebuilt my bike about 15 hours ago and i decided to check crank axial play.

i used to have ball bearing but now using ntn rollers.

I cant seem to get any! not even the slightest bit of play??

the engine isnt tight and runs like a dream but i cant get play. im looking for circa .55mm but with my dial indicator i cant even see .10mm

when i was fitting the roller bearings the inner race on the ignition side did seem tighter than the drive side. could this be causing axial play problems?

im not running any shims on the crank either.

mains bearings pressed solid into either casings when i rebuilt it.

any help would be apreciated

if you built it at 0.55mm with a fresh big end or crank it will be about 0.45 now (crank spread)

I aim for 0.8 to 0.7 on a new crank then it ends up about right

what did you build it to ?

if you built it right but there is no axial play anymore its because something moved when the engine was hot and has now settled and cooled off = no play

Definative main bearing thread
