Clutch Noise FE 650

Hi guys!

I have a 2003 FE650, and when I start it runs fine, right untill I put it in gear, and back out into neutral( Btw Neutral is really hard to find), or if I just pull the clutch lever without changing gears. Once I do that it starts doing this really low pitched noise, but once I pull one the clutch lever again it stops. Otherwise I don't see anything wrong with it.
Any idea???

You can forget about trying to find neutral on the bike with the engine running. It is very difficult in most cases and is a normal characteristic of the brand.
I'm not clear on your description of the noise.

About the noise:
I start up the bike--> no noise
The bike running and I put it in gear and back into neutral, then the noise starts. I noticed that i dont even have to put it in gear, just pull the lever and the noise starts.
As for the noise it's kind of hard to describe.....low growling associated whit some whining .
Most importantly if I pull the clutch the noise stops, and if I let it go it's back again(all this happening in neutral).

Cheers, Tom

First time after start the bike, if I pull the clutch, it starts, and it only stops if I pull it in again, and only while it's pulled in.
Im only realizing it now how confusing is the way I described it ))))).
Srry about that

Re: Clutch Noise FE 650

sounds like the clutch nut might be loose and/or the trans mainshaft has excessive side play causing a gear to drag.

Re: Clutch Noise FE 650

I believe that it's going to the trans mainshaft, because I've tightened the clutch nut myself after I changed the kickstart shaft.
Can I do anything about the excessive play? Can it do any further harm?

Re: Clutch Noise FE 650

only way to be sure is pull the cover and see how much movement in the shaft when you pull the lever. if it is the problem (i've never heard of this problem), the only solution is a thrust washer.
