2010 FE570 starting issues and fix

The information I have found on this site is why I donate to the site.
2010 FE 570 starting issues and fix
Well over 6000 miles with a Rekluse
For the last 800 miles the bike has progressively been getting harder to spin the engine at a constant starting RPM. Engine would stall (stop) cranking on compression stroke.
Checked voltage drop at starter / amp draw the electrical system is good
I installed a Tunetech battery about 600 miles ago, Being human I wanted to blame the Tunetech, the battery works perfect.
I thought the auto compression release was not working right when the engine turned to the compression stroke the engine would stop turning. Compression release is perfect.
There is a good video about this problem under no start.
I though the starting system was weak not cranking the engine, NOT SO the torque limiter was slipping not letting the engine spin over
Ive seen problems with torque limiters on other bikes in the past so I checked it and it looked fine BUT I did a search on this great web site in electrical under starter and gwp 58 had the information I needed to fix the torque limiter Thank You gwp 58 your video and info saved me big money. I checked before disassembling, it would slip with 12 lbs/ft of torque.
I had to use heat to release the factory loctite to disassemble torque limiter.
I did flip the fiction disc over and put the slip at 25 lb/ft with a torque wrench.
Any body know Where I can get this fiction material they use??
Has been spinning the engine over great even at 30f degrees with 20/50 oil, I know I need to change to 10/40
Ive waited two and a half months to post this making sure problem was fixed, it is.
CAUTION: when installing torque limiter, on my bike the bolt and washer that holds the torque limiter on the stub shaft has factory loctite to hold it tight, I guess. Not sure how the factory got away with this! When I reinstalled the bolt it lockedup the torque limiter assemble. The stub shaft is about .050 short of the torque limiter assemble width. They machined the case to deep then pressed the stub into the case to deep Im guessing, was easy to fix just be aware if you remove your torque limiter assemble to watch for this problem.
I used a wash that is .055 thick placed on the stub shaft loctite the bolt and torque to 88 in/lbs have about .004 axial movement this will work fine.
THIS had nothing to do with the torque limiter slipping
The bike has been great the starting system has been used a lot in the 6000 miles of uses. The Rekluse will put a little more load on the starting system because of a little clutch drag if I think about it I put the bike in neutral when starting, it will start in gear its just more load on the starting system which includes the torque limiter.
NO Complaints at all with the bike, this is just things that happen with something that gets used hard.
Heading to Nevada for a few weeks to ride. Its to cold 20*F and snow here in Idaho
Have a great ride

Had the same deal myself and was starting to doubt my wisdom of buying a 570 instead of a 530EXC. Now its fixed, i feel so mush happier knowing shes gonna start every time, especially when really hot.

Re: 2010 FE570 starting issues and fix

Strange thing , and it may not be related , but i had a problem with starting my 011-570 even on the first ride- in neutral.
I was almost cranked out of battery when i thought i would try the normal middle map setting as a last resort and it fired up.

I have a 70 degrees map switch , so it was easy to select the normal setting and away it went , it has done it several times and this has sorted it out every time ,then i restart it on agressive straight after that.
I wonder if anyone else is having problems starting on agressive setting as well.
