[didnt find any old threads regarding this subject, im sorry if there is one]

Im just curious if its possible to turn my fc550 4-speed gearbox to 6-speed?

What parts would i need?

- Few gears for sure.
- New shifting drum?

Can those new extra gears be fitted to the old shaft?
Just say if this is ridiculously expensive operation and i will forget it

Thank you nsman for the trouble!

Actually i allready have the engine in pieces on my workdesk, thats why im asking! 200dollars doesnt sound bad at all. Maybe Taffy can provide me these parts even cheaper (if he have them in used condition some where? :) ). The bearings i can handle myself.

If anyone has these parts for sale, please send a PM! :)

You are welcome
for the record,, a couple hundred =$200
a few hundred = $300-$400. :D

haha! My bad. 400dollars is way too much for me. xD Luckily the parts doesnt have to be brand new, which i think means that i can find them at a reasonable price some where.

SO, if some one haves old engine parts for sale, please contact me. The shaft would be the number 1 part. I think that would be the most expensive part to buy from my local dealer.

The most expensive parts are the two gears
The shaft is the one the shift fork slides on.
No need to buy a mainshaft, just remove the two spacers

Those 3 first part numbers got little bit mixed up. Here is the right ones:
Just for clarification

800 34 001 000 Shifting fork
503 34 018 100 Shifting roller(pin?)
800 34 019 000 Shift rail main shaft

still searching :p

keep your old shifting drum it is normally a small pin that you hit out and it lets it roll through to 5th and 6th when its installed. ive got some old boxes in my shed i will check for gears.

Hello.
I'm thinking of the same thing, so I'll try to bring this topic on top again; changing from 4 to 6 speed gearbox on my 2001 FC550. I would like a wider ratio of speed, from woods to iceracing and farmland. Can someone please tell me if I can use gearboxes from a FE400 (in the same year of make) and up, or is it limited to the bigger bores? I'm looking for complete gearboxes, that has all the gears. Then it might be easier to get a fair price?

you can use any gearbox from 1997-2002. you can use any gearbox up to 2008 if you alter your clutch drum to 2003-2008. that is about 135gbp at mine.

I'm doing a FC550 right now but I can see all 6 gears in the box. they used to make these as a FC550/6 and as a FC550/4.

you have more choice than ever to get the parts used and in good condition.

regards

Taffy
