Re: Dirt Tricks Cam chain tensioner instructions?

Is a failing factory CCT something I need to worry about? It is a common failure? Looks like an easy enough "fix", I guess it's worth the peace of mind for $80?

Mine just started making noise consistently when it was cold, at start up, so I replaced it.
The new one eliminated the noise, simple.

What did you replace it with? DJH, Dirt tricks, or something else?

DJH, I like the simple, adjustable nature of it. Very easy to install.

Re: Dirt Tricks Cam chain tensioner instructions?

Ok, last question on this subject (from me anyway), I promise.

Can anyone tell me why the Dirt Tricks CCT is better than the Stock Berg one. I get why the MCCT from DJH is reliable, but what makes the DT hydraulic CCT, better thatn the stock hydraulic CCT???

Thanks!

Re: Dirt Tricks Cam chain tensioner instructions?

I have only got 30 (single track) engine hrs on mine and its ticking. I haven't checked the valves yet and thought it may be that, but probably the CCT from reading this thread, or something I will do immediately anyway.

Do I have to get the valves at TDC to install a Dirt Tricks CCT or is it simply 'plug and play' as it is.

Thanx in advance.

Mine has 20 hrs. it's a plug and play operation. Simple, just follow the directions. Takes 10 minutes.

Re: Dirt Tricks Cam chain tensioner instructions?

DirtTricks tensioner has a ratchet inside. At first blush that sounds like it makes a lot of sense that the CCT is constantly adjusting itself and has a ratchet to hold the adjustment for next cold start. There have been claims that under the right conditions the DT CCT can over tension the chain and due to the ratchet can not back off until serious damage has occurred.

Seeing as how we don't have hydraulic valve lifters I don't see the point in hydraulic CCT. I too have the dead simple DJH CCT. If you ask, Dave has it in au natural aluminum. Am not one for bling, wanted natural aluminum or black to match the valve cover.

This past Saturday at the Rad Dad Enduro I got to touch Mike Lafferty's bike. Studying his setup I spotted a manual CCT much like DJH's design.

I can't understand your connection between hydraulic valves and hydraulic CCT? What do you mean?

I saw one of his bikes too awhile back and noticed the CCT, wonder if it is something DJH did for him?

Hmmm, IMO the Dirt Tricks is potentially more damaging, as the ratchet in the Dirt tricks got stuck under some serious tension and crapped me up. $500 bucks later I debated if I should reinstall my factory unit that rattled like hell, but decided to dropped the extra $80 for the DJH. Been perfect ever since.
