hole in the head

hi there i havent been on for a while but ive still been reading and learning which brings me round to my next problem lol. if you look in my gallery you ll see a couple of pics where i have a hole in the head near the spark plug, its where the socket goes down to loosen the spark plug. firstly, can i use liquid alloy secondly, does it have to be welded thirdly, how has this happened, is it with wear from taking the plug out because the alloy looks very thin around that area.
cheers mick

Re: hole in the head

I believe you are talking about the drain hole. It's there to stop water from collecting in the spark plug well. I don't think you want to plug it.

Re: hole in the head

thanx for your replys, dont you think abit of liquid alloy would do the job better than duct tape lol , ive a friend who says he can weld it for me but ive a funny feeling that when he starts to weld it it will blow into a bigger hole than it is now, oooooooooooo well i ll have to have a think about what to do, cheers, mick

Duct tape won't hold. The head will get hot and it will become a gooey mess.

Where does the hole lead to? If it doesn't go into a water or oil passage, and doesn't go into the combustion chamber, then it does no harm and I would leave it alone.

Re: hole in the head

id pull the rocker cover and then you should be able to get to it from the inside.

blob of liquid metal of similar on the inside then once its set, tidy up the outside and job done.

Re: hole in the head

might get away with a bit of degreasing, file some bare metal and blob of threebond 1207B

to fix it properly any quality epoxy will do, the ally is cast and very hard so can be difficult to weld but sure that'd work too

Okay, didn't know if you were Canuckian or not and therefore serious or not.
