Have you worked on anything since it last ran? Did it just die on you one day? Does it even act like it "wants" to start?

When my SEM went out, one of the first things I checked was spark - for whatever reason I thought it had and continued along with the other check points. Finally after no success I checked the spark again and realized there was none

After changing the stator it ran fine.

What is the old saying? If all the necessary conditions exist, it has to run, it has no choice :P

Yes, the engine can indeed receive too much fuel.

Is the plug wet with fuel after kicking?

Is the fuel odor strong as in flooded?

Hate to say it, but if it absolutely will not start, go down to your local auto parts store and get a can of starting fluid. Remove the air filter, squirt some in the intake and kick it over. Unless you have a large hole in the side of the head or no spark at all, it will start. If you have compression, spark and fuel, the engine will run.

an easy way to test ya compression is to put ya finger over the spark plug hole and kick it. If it blows ya finger off the hole then compression is good.

there's a good chance ya float isn't floating and flooding the carb.
